Premier Soccer League match report Bidvest Wits 0-0 Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 23 April 2014 Time: 18:31

Kaizer Chiefs' fate in the title race is no longer in their hands after drawing 0-0 with Bidvest Wits at Bidvest Stadium on Wednesday night.

The result means log leaders Mamelodi Sundowns - who are five points richer than Chiefs having played an extra game - can claim Premiership honours if they win their remaining two matches.

Wits, in third spot, are effectively out of contention.

In an evenly contested tie, the visitors threatened early on, as Siphiwe Tshabalala and George Lebese flashed shots wide before Kingston Nkhatha drilled a useful effort straight at Moeneeb Josephs in the opening 10 minutes.

Gavin Hunt's men, though, nearly replied with interest five minutes later, as Sthembiso Ngocbo's low strike on the angle required a fine save from Amakhosi skipper Itumeleng Khune.

At the other end, Bernard Parker curled a free-kick on target midway through the opening stanza but Josephs was perfectly placed to punch clear.

The Clever Boys, who looked dangerous on the counter, came agonisingly close to netting minutes before the interval, but Ngcobo's header clipped the top of the crossbar off a Jabulani Shongwe corner.

Parker had the last chance of the half but his low shot on the turn was scooped up by the watchful Josephs.

The Students were denied by the woodwork again in the 49th minute, as Asive Langwe's first-time attempt rattled the upright, while Ngcobo later had an effort chalked out for offside.

The Glamour Boys then wasted two great opportunities in quick succession just past the hour-mark, as Nkhatha volleyed over from close range before Lebese failed to connect inside the area.

Chiefs substitute Katlego Mphela almost snatched a last-minute winner but the former Bafana Bafana star headed a Tshabalala cross against the goal-frame.

Our downside in attack is Nkhata often getting caught offside. If our professionals can understand the amount of effort that others put in to get to the other half, they can do their part by staying on side...Nkhatha messes up our crucial buildups at cruicial stages of the game.

Let's accept the menu that is dished up in front of us. I hope before half time will be leading by two goals to nil. And wrap it up by four goals up.

My question is, what was the point of going haywire on the previous transfer list when we acquired Mphela and Maluleke, only for them not to play??..

Bad utilisation of your investment if you tell me..

Chiefs can win only if their attacking midfielders can realise that scoring is not only for strikers and defenders it does involved them 2

I remember Gavin Hunt said long time ago. "The team that will win the league would have to collected 65 points" and that was the target he set for his Bidvest and its going as his words.

When I saw Daniel "pie-rats 12th man" Bennet as 4th official I sensed that this ref will be under pressure to please him. The two corner kicks he blew as free kicks is the start. Did you know that Gavin Hunt plays golf with Daniel be net?
