PSL Match Report: Bloemfontein Celtic 1-0 Orlando Pirates

Posted: 21 April 2014 Time: 14:48

Hellings 'Gabadinho' Mhango put in a magnificent performance to help Bloemfontein Celtic beat Orlando Pirates 1-0 at Free State Stadium on Monday afternoon.

The Malawian import scored the decisive goal of the match but also cleared the ball off the line to prevent Pirates from finding a way to salvage a point.
Both teams arrived into the encounter on the back of a poor run of results with both Celtic and Pirates having only one won match in their last three domestic encounters.
The home side were left appealing a penalty after just four minutes when Daine Klate cleared the ball off the line at the near post from a corner kick, however, the referee waved play on.
There was little to no action happening in the opening 20 minutes of the encounter, and Pirates’ first chance of the fixture came in the shape of a mis-hit shot from Thamsanqa Gabuza that skipped past the far post.
Celtic deservingly broke the deadlock seven minutes later when Gabadinho Mhango latched onto Davies Nkausu's long-ball, cut inside Siyabonga Sangweni and fired home a powerful left-footed shot into the top-right corner.
Siwelele continued to dominate proceedings in the encounter but there was little action happening in front of goal on either end of the park.
Musa Nyatama and Mhango were then involved in a quick one-two in the closing minutes of the half, however, their play, which was causing problems for Pirates, was blown for offside.
Ernst Middendorp’s men could have had a penalty at the restart when Sifiso Myeni may have taken the ball off Vuyani Ntanga’s feet. He connected with the player from behind, but the referee waved play on.
Then, on 54 minutes, Nyatama struck a powerful shot from outside the box which stung the hands of Senzo Meyiwa. The goalkeeper could only smother it first time before grabbing ahold of it on the second attempt with Mhango following up.
Ayanda Gcaba was denied of the equalising goal on 69 minutes when Ayanda Gcaba headed a corner-kick towards the back post, only to see it smartly cleared off the line by Mhango.

Celtic dealt with several Pirates attacks relatively comfortably in the closing stages of the second half but were always dangerous on the counter as they held on for three points.

The result moves Celtic into the top eight, level with Pirates on 40 points.

The yellow machine must loan our cheerleaders a few strikers next season. This guy called Gabuza is a Brahman.

Yellow remains the only colour.

My man please think before you comment, I said defensive striker meaning he is defending in the offensive part of the field. Your name says it all, you are really dumb.

The brown envelope not working for the rats so far. Officials are clearly biased in favour of the rats.

Ve to say I m worried abt Bibo as a defensive middle fld...he does not control the middle and dominate like Jali...Maselesa is better...or we need to buy a solid playe in that position...

Chiefs has Katsnde, downs have Kekana..

This far lineman is playing brown envelop, thrice judging illegitimate offside. The score would have been 4-0 now.

Mentality of local players not great hey- players should be motivated and give as much effort in every game not just when they feel....a large crowd does make it a little easier to play

mzulu You must also think before you say something and read carefully. I was referring to your statement that Gcaba was a rugby player which simple means he is multi talented. You fool!!!!
