Premier Soccer League match report: Mamelodi Sundowns 1-0 Bloemfontein Celtic

Posted: 9 April 2014 Time: 19:14

Mamelodi Sundowns moved three points ahead of Kaizer Chiefs at the Premiership summit following a hard-fought 1-0 victory over Bloemfontein Celtic on Wednesday.

Surprise Moriri's 24th minute goal proved decisive at Loftus Stadium as the Tshwane giants extended their winning streak to seven games in the League. On the same night, Chiefs, who have a game in hand on Pitso Mosimane's outfit, suffered a 1-0 home loss to Mpumalanga Black Aces.

The opening exchanges were combative in nature, with time and space on the ball hard to come by on a greasy surface.

Downs attacker Khama Billiat nearly found a way through in the 14th minute, but his low shot was well kept out by Patrick Tignyemb following a fantastic through-ball from Man of the Match Teko Modise.

The Brazilians, though, took the lead 10 minutes later, as veteran midfielder Moriri headed home an inch-perfect free-kick by Modise from the right. The setpiece was harshly awarded for a slight push by Musa Bilankulu on Anthony Laffor.

Celtic had a good chance in the 35th minute, but on-loan defender Bilankulu glanced his header wide off a right-wing cross.

The second period was similarly cagey, with Laffor forcing a neat save by Tingyemb with a header, while Celtic substitute Frank Mhango dragged his weak shot wide moments later around the hour-mark.

Mhango, who came on for Magogi Gabonamong straight after the recess, tried his luck again from range in the 72nd minute but his attempt was well off target.

Two minutes later Modise sustained an ankle injury due to a bad tackle from Tsietsi Mahoa, and was replaced by Esrom Nyandoro, with Mahoa receiving a booking.

Phunya Sele Sele almost snatched an equaliser two minutes before the end but Joel Mogorosi headed wide off a route-one ball with Kennedy Mweene caught in 'no man's land'.

MOMENT OF TRUTH: I am a Chiefs Supporter but Sundowns is....

Coach  well done, Nkatha keep it up.

I hate to say some of the things because they usually come to pass, I hope God will forbid though in this case

I have been attempting to avoid the feeling that Sundawons will win the League but  as a matured lad I am more than brave enough to point out the danger and threat that Sundowns will pose on us.

Sundowns have a superior goal difference and their attention is undivided, they are led by a man who has a lots of wrath and a point to prove. If you look in terms of how Sundowns played against Chiefs and Pirates you will agree with me that there are favourites to win the League and at this point luck and consistency will win them the League.

I am not saying Chiefs wont win the League, Chiefs has 100% control of winning the League provided that we win the 12 remaining League games. Sundownss has a lots of depth they have proved to me that there are capable of winning.

What Chiefs should do.

Kaizer Chiefs need to have target," A JACK OF ALL TRADE IS A MASTER TO NONE", Times like these call for sacrifices. The players that played against BLACK AFRICA second leg or that squad should be the squad that should play NEDBANK. Then for CCL and the League should be played buy the regulars who have took us this far.

That is strategic and surely we will win the LEAGUE AND DO WELL IN CCL even in Nedbank because of our name and hunger of players who are not regulars, we can win the treble.

I am matured, are you if you are not, learn from the humble yet unbiased fans anyway thats how I see things, that what God gave me , he gave me the uniqueness I do not expect people to like or even agree with me cause time will tell the truth and I will remind you.

Remember, a wise man once said: "Nothing, Eveything, Anything and Something": "If you have Nothing you have everything bacause you have the freedom to do Anythingwithout the fear to lose something"

however, soon I will say something positive for Ikhosi!

Hats off to downs, and picking up points when we still talk about games in hand.Without taking anything from them,Congratulations and it will still happen to the top two teams that they win, draw and loose.Believe me this is a crucial stage where everyone wants to secure points.

Chiefs just need to have a sense of urgency and score goals.

Baxter must go! He's tactically bankrupt! He had a lead of 15 points clear but today all is gone. Sundowns won 7 games in a row collecting 21 points over the past 2 weeks.
