Two stunning strikes within a minute saw Polokwane City and Free State Stars play to a 1-1 draw in a Premiership game at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Saturday night.
Puleng Tlolane’s superb volley was cancelled out by a thunderous strike from Ea Lla Koto's Luyolo Nomandela.
The teams entered the game occupying the two spots above bottom placed Golden Arrows and desperately in need of three points to ease their relegation fears.
Despite an electrifying opening five minutes, the game died down significantly as the two teams looked scared to expose their shaky defensive lines in a goalless first half.
Vukile Mngqibisa then missed a golden opportunity 10 minutes into the second half before Tlolane opened the scoring in emphatic style in the 76th minute. The ball popped up favourably for the striker on the edge of the area and he gladly accepted the invitation, hammering in an unstoppable volley past Tshepo Motsoeneng.
A minute later, though, the crowd was stunned in to silence. Stars attacked straight from the kick-off as Nomandela received the ball on the left flank before cutting inside and hitting a thunderous effort into the net to equalise.
Stars looked content with a draw and successfully saw out a nervy six minutes of stoppage time to secure a valuable point on the road and subsequently remain above City in the standings.
