CAF Confederation Cup match report SuperSport United 1-4 Etoile du Sportive Sahel (agg 1-5)

Posted: 29 March 2014 Time: 19:46

SuperSport United crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday night as they were thumped 4-1 by Tunisian side Etoile du Sportive Sahel in a second-round tie at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

United, who were eliminated 5-1 on aggregate, were undone by a brace from Drane Michailou, and strikes from Molihbi Youssef and Tej Marouane, while Lebohang Manyama netted from the spot for the hapless hosts, who missed a late penalty via Mame Niang.

It was a bad evening for South African teams, as Premiership champions and leaders Kaizer Chiefs earlier exited the CAF Champions League despite a 2-0 home win over DRC outfit AS Vita.

In the Matsatsantsa game, Bafana Bafana winger Thuso Phala threatened in the 25th minute, as his shot from close range drew a fine save from Ben Ayoub Aymen.

But it was Etoile who would take the lead 11 minutes later when Michailou pounced on a defensive error at the back.

Ex-Ajax Cape Town ace Manyama then equalised with a successful penalty on the stroke of half-time after striker Bradley Grobler went down in the box.

However, the visitors took control after the break, as Michailou got his second in the 64th minute before Youssef and Marouane completed the rout with goals in the 75th and 90th minute respectively.

SuperSport: Williams, Moloi, Diouf, September, Khumalo, Mkhabela, Gyimah, Manyama, Phala, Grobler, Niang.

Etoile: Aymen, Ghazi, Radolian, Marouen, Alaya, Franck, Hamdi, Michailou, Mohamed, Rami, Yolissef.

What embarrassment, no character and a disgrace for giving up that easily. Best ssp united stay faraway from these competitions, last season was the same when they were walloped at home also by enippi of Egypt. Pathetic, really pathetic and nogals at home, sis! Once and always bucs.

Looks like Orlando Pirates is the only SA team that can stand the brutal African competition. It's so unfortunate to see other teams not continuing with the good work done by Orlando Pirates last season.

Bucs did SA proud when they reached the finals and we all knw that!

mandlaness don't forget that they also crashed out b4 the group stages the season b4 that. lets see if  chiefs can win the league and try again next year, but not with this transition nonsense  that they are trying to playing against other African teams.

@NtsMavee I hear you bra but we expect to improve from what has been achieved. The fact that Pirates reached the finals was supposed to be a yard stick for Choefs to go one further.
