SuperSport United crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday night as they were thumped 4-1 by Tunisian side Etoile du Sportive Sahel in a second-round tie at Lucas Moripe Stadium.
United, who were eliminated 5-1 on aggregate, were undone by a brace from Drane Michailou, and strikes from Molihbi Youssef and Tej Marouane, while Lebohang Manyama netted from the spot for the hapless hosts, who missed a late penalty via Mame Niang.
It was a bad evening for South African teams, as Premiership champions and leaders Kaizer Chiefs earlier exited the CAF Champions League despite a 2-0 home win over DRC outfit AS Vita.
In the Matsatsantsa game, Bafana Bafana winger Thuso Phala threatened in the 25th minute, as his shot from close range drew a fine save from Ben Ayoub Aymen.
But it was Etoile who would take the lead 11 minutes later when Michailou pounced on a defensive error at the back.
Ex-Ajax Cape Town ace Manyama then equalised with a successful penalty on the stroke of half-time after striker Bradley Grobler went down in the box.
However, the visitors took control after the break, as Michailou got his second in the 64th minute before Youssef and Marouane completed the rout with goals in the 75th and 90th minute respectively.
