CAF Confederation Cup match report SuperSport United 1-4 Etoile du Sportive Sahel (agg 1-5)

Posted: 29 March 2014 Time: 19:46

SuperSport United crashed out of the CAF Confederation Cup on Saturday night as they were thumped 4-1 by Tunisian side Etoile du Sportive Sahel in a second-round tie at Lucas Moripe Stadium.

United, who were eliminated 5-1 on aggregate, were undone by a brace from Drane Michailou, and strikes from Molihbi Youssef and Tej Marouane, while Lebohang Manyama netted from the spot for the hapless hosts, who missed a late penalty via Mame Niang.

It was a bad evening for South African teams, as Premiership champions and leaders Kaizer Chiefs earlier exited the CAF Champions League despite a 2-0 home win over DRC outfit AS Vita.

In the Matsatsantsa game, Bafana Bafana winger Thuso Phala threatened in the 25th minute, as his shot from close range drew a fine save from Ben Ayoub Aymen.

But it was Etoile who would take the lead 11 minutes later when Michailou pounced on a defensive error at the back.

Ex-Ajax Cape Town ace Manyama then equalised with a successful penalty on the stroke of half-time after striker Bradley Grobler went down in the box.

However, the visitors took control after the break, as Michailou got his second in the 64th minute before Youssef and Marouane completed the rout with goals in the 75th and 90th minute respectively.

SuperSport: Williams, Moloi, Diouf, September, Khumalo, Mkhabela, Gyimah, Manyama, Phala, Grobler, Niang.

Etoile: Aymen, Ghazi, Radolian, Marouen, Alaya, Franck, Hamdi, Michailou, Mohamed, Rami, Yolissef.

Confed cup is a tough competition because teams from other countries put everything they have because they spend more money travelling across the continent, so they try to get  return for their money value by giving it their best shot to get as far as possible in this competition.

The interesting thing about these games is that you get to compete at higher level in the continent. For the sake of SA and Bafana, Chiefs mush continue to compete even thou its only one or two players in their team of making it to vision 2018, being the Reyaad (gk) and maybe Lebese if he's prepared to take his game to another level. The rest of the players will have no role to play in terms of National team as they are already bo madala's.

At least you save much time for the league and the nedbank cup. Even Kaiser Chiefs are out of the Champions league but they will however join Etoile Du Sahel in that lower Confederations cup u exited.

If these clubs fail us what do u expect bafana bafana to do. People will realize that we are not football power house. When bafana loose it is a crisis. The country must go to the drawing boards. Yesterday I watched to junior teams playing in finals

That Etoile du Sahel were Caf Champions league Champions in 2007 and in 2008 couldn't defend their title after beaten 1-0 in Harare and 1-0 again in Tunisia by Dynamos of Zimbabwe.DO SADC have representative now?

JusticeMbizaChongoveza  Yes. SADC will have Kaizer Chiefs, who will be relegated to the Confed Cup after crashing out of the ACL. I don't know of other teams from the region though.
