Mamelodi Sundowns vs Golden Arrows Nedbank Cup

Posted: 22 March 2014 Time: 22:20

Mamelodi Sundowns came from a goal down to beat Golden Arrows 4-1 in a last 16 round Nedbank Cup tie at King Goodwill Zwelithini Stadium on Saturday evening.

Philani Shange opened the scoring for the hosts, but goals from Dove Wome, Lebohang Mokoena, Anthony Laffor and Percy Tau booked Sundowns’ place in the final eight.

Sundowns looked to dominate from the onset, but it was the home side who took the lead through Shange in the 13th minute.

Siyanda Zwane made a driving run down the right flank before playing the ball into the area; his cut-back evaded a couple of Downs players but not Shange, who produced a powerful shot to send the home fans into delirium.

Sundowns continued to press forward and finally found their reward six minutes before the break. Laffor played in Wome, whose low drive from an acute angle got the better of Nkosingiphile Gumede.

The old-guard of Teko Modise, Alje Schut and Surprise Moriri combined well 10 minutes into the second stanza with the latter’s effort smashing off the post, before Mokoena grabbed the lead for the Brazilians in the 58th minute.

‘Cheeseboy’ found himself in a pocket of space just outside the area before smashing the ball past Gumede.

Four minutes later and it was 3-1. Laffor left two defenders in his wake before finishing off superbly with the outside of his boot.

Tau capped off a superb comeback in the 90th minute. Teko Modise hit the inside of the post before recovering the rebound and setting up Tau, who produced an exquisite first time finish to net his first goal of his Sundowns career.

Golden Arrows: Gumede; Ntombayithethi, Zwane, Nene, Tom, Mngwengwe, Khuboni (Musonda 68’), Katongo, Moholo (Mbewe 61’), Shange (Thwala 74’), Hotto

Mamelodi Sundowns: Sandilands; Mphahlele, Schut, Nthethe, Mashaba, Laffor, Kekana, Modise, Moriri (Masenamela 79’), Wome (Nyandoro 65’), Mokoena (Tau 74’)

Best goalkeeper in the psl goes to gumede, what class! The guy is top quality he could not even save a simple kick from cheeseboy, yes it had venom but come on man even my laatie could've saved that shot, it came straight at him.also made numerous blunders that should've been routine for a psl goalkeeper and its no wonder arrows are in this mess, the no.1 goalie is no better. Best coach goes to Bartlett for awesome team selection, he's really tactically astute, outwit flops's pitso by playing gumede as his main triumph card, geez how retarded can a coach be? If arrows knows what is good for them, they should fire this guy tonight, else they're going down. Mato will regret the day she let mnqithi go. Sad sight seeing a psl team that campaigned for all these years suffering like this. Once and always bucs.

Coach pitso is by far my favourite when it comes to post match interviews, the guy knows his stuff and always cracks me up with his choice of words. ' cheeseboy knows he must score when he gets a chance, the crew are coming, billiat is there, mashego is here, malajila are coming and they are ready, so cheeseboy knows his job'.

After winning 4 nil easily the coach gave respect to arrows, saying ' arrows is a dangerous team, they are good' really! Not from where I'm sitting and Pitso's words might actually fool mato into a false sense in believing that Bartlett might save the sinking bus. Mara pitso is really funny mos, great interviews, always adding extra spice. Everytime he gets interviewed I'm glued to my set when not attending live games. Great guy. Once and always bucs

VatAles  and you are a chiefs fan no doubt. Love and Peace. Where the fuck is the love at because you hatin, dude? I hope you manage to find Peace inside your heart too and reconcile with the fact that you are not in control of what your competition is doing unless your competition plays with you directly. So you had two things to choose from on what to do, one is to shut the fuck up and say nothing, the other one is to congratulate sundowns for qualifying for quarterfinals.

If this is the same sundowns that will play Kaizer Chiefs....I'm looking up for a big game. Both teams are on song, chiefs want to retain the number one sport and sundowns want to b no. 1 for the first time in many years. Chiefs beat sundowns in the first leg and pitso wants revenge.pitso loves attention, he is the only coach who stay for a longer time on a mic.so if he can beats chiefs, he can brag for the whole month.

For a month interview, he needs Deshi Baktawar.
