First Division Coastal Stream side Ikapa Sporting have snatched up former Bloemfontein Celtic man Carlo Scott on a one-year contract.
The club finalised the deal on Friday, adding Scott to their list of recent signings, which include former Bay United striker Peter Kirsten and veteran midfielder Robert Nauseb.
Scott spent the past two seasons at Bloemfontein Celtic, but his contract was not renewed after he struggled with injury and got minimal game time.
Ikapa coach Sergio dos Santos says the nomadic striker will bring some valuable experience to the team.
“We have signed Carlo for one year, with an option for another year. We saw a lot of positives in his game while he was training with us, and he brings with him the kind of experience that will help us up front,” Dos Santos tells KickOff.com.
Scott burst onto the scene at Cape Town Spurs a decade ago, but during subsequent spells at Ajax Cape Town, Mamelodi Sundowns, Santos and Moroka Swallows he failed to live up to the hype.
Since being shown the door at Celtic, the 28-year-old striker from Mitchell’s Plain had made it clear that he wanted to return to his home town, and had been spotted at training with Ajax and Vasco da Gama.
The combined experience of Scott and his new teammate Kirsten, who has spent time at Hellenic and Santos, should make Ikapa the team to watch in the Coastal Stream this season. They play their first game – an away visit to Durban Stars – on Friday night.
