Aces and Pirates share the spoils

Posted: 18 March 2014 Time: 18:55

Eddie Ngalo scored a crucial goal to help Mpumalanga Black Aces hold Orlando Pirates to a 1-1 Absa Premiership draw at Mbombela Stadium on Tuesday evening.

The Aces man did well to cancel out Sifiso Myeni’s opening goal in the 23rd minute as both teams had an equal share of opportunities to win the game.

Lennox Bacela was handed a rare start ahead of Kermit Erasmus and Lehlohonolo Majoro for Orlando Pirates, while Aces had to make do without the suspended Mabhuti Khenyeza.

The home side was the first to break into the opposition’s box when Tendai Ndoro tried to round Rooi Mahamutsa and go in on goal, but the ball was cleanly swept away by the Bucs defender.

Pirates’ first effort arrived in the 14th minute when Mpho Makola struck a powerful drive from 15-yards which skimmed the crossbar of Jackson Mabokagwane’s goal.

Just seconds later Khethowakhe Masuku cut in from the right flank and forced a brilliant save from the Aces ‘keeper, seeing him go at full stretch to push the ball away at the far post.

Pirates deservingly took the lead through Sifiso Myeni in the 23rd minute. Lennox Bacela did well to feed his teammate from the right flank and it saw Myeni beat the offside trap to tap home the opening goal. Themba Zwane was booked for protesting the goal as offside, but replays showed the strike was good.

Parity was restored ten minutes later through Zamuxolo Ngalo after Thabo Qalinge latched onto a free-kick and worked his way into the box. The latter sliced through a cross from the byline for Ngalo, who drilled home the equaliser after being left completely unmarked in the box.

Onyekachi Onkonkwo, who used to play for Pirates, ballooned his effort over the posts after the restart, before Bacela showed some great set of skill to feed through a ball to Masuku, but that was ultimately cleared.

It should have been 2-1 to Aces just before the hour mark when Okonkwo thread a pass through to Abia Nale, but he disappointingly failed to finish with his favoured left foot.

With 20 minutes to spare, substitute Kermit Erasmus attempted to score the match-winning strike with a thunderous shot form 30-yards out, but the ‘keeper made a good save.

The only real urgency in closing stages of the game came in the shape of a Pirates header which was cleared off the line by Sandile Zuke, as neither team could find a match-winning strike.

Good advise my man, m a Khosi and I loved Major until Saturday when he acted illiterate. The sad part is that it's not only Khosi fans booing him, fans in general would not be happy with what he said... He should also take Jimmy Tau' s advice and not disrespect fans. Like it or not we are the main stake holders in football, Chiefs and Pirates get major sponsors from Vodacom because of they're support base so in turn paying his salary indirectly.

It's what they do best, sharing or giving away points while trying to turn the poor team into Kaizer Pirates by poaching players and coaches. Now that we know ur strategy for survival, I hereby grant U permission to poach Masango and Dladla. Then U can shed some more points, I'm sure Ull b much appreciated @ ABC, DEFG... MOTSEPE AMATEUR LEAGUE.

@superbrand my man u r not getting my point. By saying that alone he has broken because if u r not broken u don't react. Besides if u are a soccer fan will know that when a player leaves his team for a rival and by that I mean sworn enemy then they will be booed even if they've left on good terms. So he should stay grounded and they will stop

You need to stop reacting emotionally my man, you've been blogging for a while now. Your frustration is clouding your already poor judgement, Chiefs did not park the bus we actually had more and better chances then pierats. So were is the bus there?

Everytime, and mean 'Everytime' when Lecowti comes and run his mouth in the media about the need to win the next game, he cost us. He was skinned alive by qalinge and kept on retreating, making it easy for the guy to get a pass into the box and the rest is history. This goat must not be given anymore game time and if he chooses to cry like a spoiled baby, let him and kick him out! How many games must Lecowti play to inflict more pain with his erratic performances? And vv finally took out ntsumayelo and pirates looked more direct, having a urgency to attack, the guy is just not giving us any momentum and gives away possession too easily for someone that's supposed to get back rather than giveaway. We are going nowhere with these players playing like this. Its very disappointing that bucs is already out of the race with 9 games left to play, very! Once and always bucs.

Booing at KC is a problem that management has to remedy. Remember you use to boo Nkatha? I am not surprised that you booing Majoro. The guy has left KC so as he said on saturday make peace with it and move on. You can say whatever you want but the bottom line is we all know what the player is capable of doing. Yes he is out form now for reasons we all know but as it happens with every player he will bounce back. All he has to do is keep working hard and he will reap the rewards.

tiboo  offside goal my foot, but radio doesn't show pictures do they? Just refrain from making these useless cowments and you'll be a-okay poi. No use in saying things that you just heard of. They dissect the goal on ssp and showed without doubt that both bacela and myeni was both onside and big thanks to William'coolcat' shongwe for spotting it first time. Once and always bucs.

As an objective Bhakaniya, I don't encourage behaviour of some of Khosi family on booing Majoro last night. But at the same time, I blame Majoro on attacking them during his interview after derby. They did not boo him when he came in and he attacked them. Majoro should focus on his game and forget the past and some fans whom according to him they talk rubbish about him. Dr Khoza, when welcoming him, adviced him to forget and forgive. He also mentioned the name of Madiba in his words of wisdom. My advice to Majoro, from me as an objective Bhakaniya, is please focus on your Godly-given talent and forget about what other people are saying. God brought you on His planet to accumulate money through your talent, while others are just speakers without salary. We, as fans, are always talking and we will keep on doing that, some of us are fools to a certain extend of fighting for the clubs which we don't have a share in it. This is all about being a fan, but you as a player focus on what you are getting paid for. Accumulate molney while speakers without payment speak volumes.

Coming to the game, I just think we Bhakaniyas should just give VV and our boys chance to finish the season the rest we can expect from next season. My wish was to see us winning the Nedbank and getting position two in the league, but after VV's two games I accept everything as long as we are in the top 4. It is not us who are struggling this season, even Man United is seeing the same. You cannot kill your child when he is not performing well in class, instead you will keep on encouraging him to pull up his socks for the better future.
