Pirates too good for fading Stars

Posted: 1 March 2014 Time: 21:15

Orlando Pirates beat Free State Stars 2-0 in their Absa Premiership clash at Orlando Stadium on Saturday night.

It was Pirates’ second win on the trot after they defeated Mamelodi Sundowns away on Wednesday evening. As for Stars their battle to save their top-flight status continues as they are still second from bottom and separated by three points.
Bucs tested Stars keeper Tshepo Motsoeneng with a string of long range efforts and the ‘keeper illustrated he was up to the task with a couple of good saves.

In the fourth minute Khethowakhe Masuku unleashed an effort which Motsoeneng parried away.
Mozambican forward Helder Pelembe gave Motsoeneng some food for thought with a strong shot in the 17th minute but the Ea Lla Koto keeper responded with a well-timed save.
The first half wasn’t the most memorable by thought of the imagination and perhaps the hosts saved their energy for the second stanza.
Pirates went in front courtesy of former Stars player Matlaba in the 48th minute when he combined well with Makola and the former finished with ease past Motsoeneng.
Seven minutes later Bucs had their second goal. With the Stars defence all at sea, Pirates turned defence into attack and Makola punished his former side with a cool finish inside the box to make it 2-0 after he had fended off his marker.
Masuku then benefitted from a quick free kick his side took as they tried to take advantage of the slow Stars defence. The winger rattled the woodwork with a thunderbolt shot that had Motsoeneng beaten.

But Bucs saw the match out for their ninth league win of the season to go to fifth position on the log.

VV come and rescue de Ship, no coach but an empty talkative vessel which is destroying the tried and tested soldiers of de Ship. No one on the bench can change de game in the middle. Untested nobodies are chosen ahead of better players, this is rediculous if not madness.

Its so frustrating to see the team play the same way week in and week out.........really the technical team is dead!!!! Why do we need to play with 5 midfielders?????? Myeni is useless, I don't understand why he is always played while the best performers like Klate are dropped!!! Masuku is also useless!!! not a Pirates material!!!! must we always depend on full backs to create something!!! nx!!!

Membaks ,

In the Marawa show they showed how the Pirates system is not working in as far as attack is concerned yet compromising the defence. For 5 matches Pirates had 0 shot at goal in the first half with 60 to 80% ball possession and opposition still getting clear cut chances. We get a few shot at goal in the second half when Erasmus comes in. Nx!!!! and this stupid coach continues to play 5 midfielders and 1 strikers. this midfielders are not adding numbers in attack or help the defence. why not play 2 strikers?????????? stupid coach must just do something different!!!

Mabhakaniya...we are leading 2-0 or am I watching a different game...why are complaining...Tinkler is going anyway

True buccanear, the system should be informed by the type of players you have as well as ur opponent on de day. It begs the question why Tinkler is employing the same system during home and away games, as well as against opponents with different style of play and abilities.

Free State Stars is rotting at the bottom of de log, the team is not convincing in thier play and I really don't know what Tlou and Klate have done to this current technical team to be isolated for months. These players have delivered trophies but this new generation is still to convince especially against good teams like SSU and others. I just hope that they won' t bring Ngoma, Malongoane and co againsr Zebras.
