Orlando Pirates defender Ntsikelelo Nyauza was happy that he caused "no problems for the team" during their 1-0 win over Mamelodi Sundowns last night.
Nyauza was brought into the side for the big League match against Sundowns because of a defensive shortage and performed ably on the night, despite picking up a head wound that needed bandaging.
“I think it was a corner-kick and I went for the ball. I collided with a Sundowns defender and the next thing I saw blood streaming down my face," Nyauza tells the Pirates website.
"I tried to carry on but I got dizzy; that is why I went to the ground and called for help. I got a few stitches and I then could carry on playing.
"In the end I’m glad I could go through the match causing no problems for the team."
The 24-year-old is hoping to kick on and win a regular place in the Pirates side after joining the Buccaneers in January.
"I have just joined the team and being thrown in at the deep end in a big match shows how much confidence my teammates and the technical team had in me. It was tough to start against a big team like Sundowns. I obviously had to be at my best," adds the former Platinum Stars player.
"I think I did okay – we won the match and I was part of the team, so I am happy with that. I can only improve from here."
