SuperSport United utility player Thato Mokeke is eager to help his side see off neighbouring University of Pretoria in a Nedbank Cup last-32 clash at Tuks Stadium this evening.
Mokeke, who returned to United from Ajax Cape Town on transfer deadline day, has quickly secured himself a regular starting place in Tshwane.
“SuperSport is a big brand and a club that is always eager to win things," Mokeke says. “Having won the Nedbank Cup before, the expectations are still the same, everybody wants to win and as players, we also want to win.
“For me, it is to try and add value where I can to help the team win and progress to the next round.”
The Bafana Bafana newcomer has also been included in Gordon Igesund’s national squad to take on World Cup hosts Brazil on March 5 at Soccer City.
“I’m happy to be back in the team,” he says. “I think the two matches I played during the Chan gave the coach something to think about and I’m grateful for another opportunity.
“I know this will be a different squad compared to what we had in camp during the Chan, with the overseas-based players there. Everybody is working hard and competing to be in the team because we all want to play.
“For me, it’s all about working hard and try to be a regular in the national team.”
He adds of being back at Matsatsantsa: “It feels great to be back here again. When I left here a few years ago I was still very young and a development player, but there is not much of a big difference from Ajax.
“The coach once coached Ajax and so I’m more familiar with his style of football which has also made it easier for me to adapt easily to the team.
“I would not like to talk about what happened at Ajax and why was I not playing there because that is in my past. I am here now, I’m enjoying myself and most importantly the team is doing well.”
