Kaizer Chiefs vs Bloemfontein Celtic PSL

Posted: 19 February 2014 Time: 19:05

Kaizer Chiefs extended their lead at the top of the League table with a 3-0 win against Bloemfontein Celtic at Soccer City.

The three points was courtesy of two excellent strikes by Bernard Parker and Knowledge Musona, an own-goal from Keegan Buchanan, and one brilliant save in particular by goalkeeper Itumeleng Khune.

It sees Amakhosi move to 43 points, nine ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, who have two games in hand.

Chiefs started the stronger of the two sides, with Siphiwe Tshabalala the first to test a goalkeeper – his 20-yard drive easily saved by Patrick Tignyemb.

Ten minutes later and the Cameroonian goalie had to be sharp after the ball fell to Parker in the box, rushing out to block at the striker’s feet.

‘Shabba’ was perhaps a bit too selfish just past the halfway mark. Having beaten three defenders down the right, he fired in a shot which was blocked when two teammates were better placed on the edge of the box.

Slowly but surely Celtic were finding their feet, and they came close to opening the scoring on the half-hour mark when Joel Mogorosi outjumped Kingston Nkhatha at a corner, but his powerful header went just wide.

Musa Nyatama should have done better shortly afterwards after a quick counter-attack, but eventually a goal did come – and it was a scorcher!

A ball was floated into the box and Nkhatha tried and overhead-kick which went horribly wrong. However, Parker reacted quickest to the loose ball and fired an unstoppable shot into the top-right corner, with Tignyemb a mere spectator.

The second half started at a frantic pace and Chiefs almost had a second five minutes in when a clever ball by Parker played in Musona on goal, but Musa Bilankulu saved the day with an excellent block.

But if the home side thought they were having this all their own way they were quickly put in their place as Nyatama played in Joel Mogorosi, whose powerful drive looked destined for the back of the net, but for Khune’s fingertip save onto the bar.

Mzansi’s number one had to be sharp again a minute later to save Nyatama’s header on the line.

But Chiefs were soon on the front foot again as first Tshabalala was denied by an excellent last-ditch tackle from Mogogi Gabonamong, before Musona added a second goal on 70 minutes.

Nkhatha squared to his fellow Zimbabwean, who beat one defender before curling the ball around Tignyemb and into the corner for a Goal of the Season contender.

Nkhatha himself should have been on the scoresheet shortly afterwards when he beat Tignyemb to a cross, but off-balance he headed over from just six yards out.

Katlego Mphela came on with 12 minutes to go for his second appearance in the Black and Gold, and straight away he set up Parker, who fired well over.

Parker came even closer on the stroke off fulltime when Tshabalala’s clever pass found him unmarked in the area, but Tignyemb was out quickly to make an excellent block.

However, there was to be one more goal in the 89th minute when Buchanan headed Tshabalala’s cross past his own goalie to cap a comprehensive win for the Amakhosi.

Salt n Vinegar is world class midfielder, what a player. As for Yeye I have no idea why he is in the starting 11, waste of oxygen..

Masha and Tower were not at their best today, too much space for Celtic attackers in the box. Welldone Khosi, I am sure rats and clowns are miserable as usual. 9 points ahead and smiling, 3 golden points in the bag, shapa Khosi shapa!!!

We score goals u only see in the uefa champions league, even the own goal was world class hehehehe..
