Ajax confirm talks with Roger de Sa

Posted: 16 February 2014 Time: 09:22

Ajax Cape Town have admitted they are in talks with former Orlando Pirates coach Roger de Sa as they edge closer to appointing a new head coach.

The Urban Warriors post is available after Muhsin Ertugral resigned from the team last month and several names have been linked with the job, including De Sa following his departure from Orlando Pirates.

He was coy on his future when quizzed about joining Ajax earlier in the week.

READ: RDS not joining Ajax, but maybe Iran

However, De Sa has now emerged as a hot favourite to land the job at Ikamva after club boss Ari Efstathiou confirmed to KickOff.com that he is in negotations with the former Bafana Bafana goalkeeper.

"Yes, we are speaking to him," confirms Efstathiou. "We will announce the new coach next week."

If this is the truth then Ajax is losing direction. If they proceed and sign him I will agree with what Commitis once said that the current holders of the team have no knowledge of the game. WITS lacked direction under his guidance. His couching abilities were questioned at Pirates and the team is bragging with the tag of being silver medal specialists. If in charge Ajax will be relegated.

Roger wasn't such a bad coach, it's just that he had bad luck with injuries at crucial times. We shouldn't forget that he only had the infamous pairing of Gcaba and Lekgwathi to work with at centre back. I dare any coach to succeed with these two as his regular starters.

Commander what if I say RDS favored certain players. I might be wrong but my exmpl here is Senzo. Dealing with crosses was his weakness. Douda was never given any chance to prove himself until the unfortunate incident to Senzo unless if he also had such weakness. I might also mention Maselesa v/s Bibo. To Mlungisi can you suggest names.

Let's see what RDS did at Pirates...he knew how to man-manage the players and get the best out of them. Prime example...as much as i am a fan of Benni MacCarthy, and even Meoneeb Josephs to a degree, they tried to hijack the team, with their pazaaz and fast-talking tactics...RDS would have none of that, and my opinion is that is why they eventually retired, and moved clubs. RDS is a down to earth coach, a players' coach, for those players that are open to listening and learning his philosophy, and management style. He has done better than most coaches in taking Pirates to the final of the Champions League, and i believe given the chance at Ajax, he will again begin a legacy at this club too. As for the new management at Ajax, they are the right people to lead Ajax Cape Town forward. All the best, and i wish the team Kali Epitixia (Good Luck!)
