Kaizer Chiefs teenager Gordinho shakes off penalty error against Maritzburg United

Kaizer Chiefs teenager Lorenzo Gordinho feels he did well to recover after conceding a penalty against Maritzburg United on his Premier Soccer League debut last night.

REPORT: Maritzburg 2-2 Chiefs

The 19-year-old tripped Kurt Lentjies in the area, with new United signing Bhongolwethu Jayiya converting the resultant spot-kick in the 36th minute of the tie at Harry Gwala Stadium.

"I am very happy at the moment and even though I caused the penalty I thought I did well for the team," Gordinho told Chiefs' official website.

"Sometimes the first games don’t go the way one has planned but I did well to come back in the second half from the mistake I did in the first half.

"I am happy that we drew the game. My head did drop a bit because I felt I was going to cost the team but I kept on working hard. I will take this experience forward in a positive way. I will look at my mistakes and rectify them and move on to progress with my game," concluded Gordinho, who typically operates at centre-back but was deployed on the right side of defence against the Team of Choice.

Regular right-back Siboniso Gaxa was switched to the left to fill the void left by the absence of injured star Tsepo Masilela.

True this, he did well after that penalty hiccup, he could have chosen to just bury his head in the sand but NO. Characteristics of STAR which is bound to shine bright for a looooooong time. KHOSIFIED DEBUT on the RIGHT

Kelepu's debut make a mistake penalty given - he is a cow of note
Gordinho debut make a mistake penalty given - he is a superstar

One for the future......Baxter you starting to show your mettle as a coach not only did you win the double last season you are now starting to incorporate youth with experience the ke yona young boys should be introduced.

Gone are the days when we used to call 25years players young stars..........17,18,19,20 years old should be playing in PSL!

He is very promising & was very impressed with the way he became calm in the second stanza. Moreover, i like the fact that he does the basics right.

This boy was developed at Pirates, and he only joned the Zebras last year. He has all the qualities to be the next Mark Fish or Gavin Lane.

And now my question is: Why did they released him? Was it to accomodate abo Gcaba, Kelepu, Nyauza and all the other rejects that we're signing at the moment. Something is totally wrong at Pirates.

Hero's are judged on how they pick themselves up after falling. You reminded me of one hero whos's career was robbed by a string of injuries and in his debut game he managed to mark out of game a top marksman who was very good in front of post by the name of Raphael Chukwu from LoanFC, and that hero of mine was Nhlanhla Kubeka.....mhhhhh Guga mziba sala nhliziyo!!!
