Sundowns go second on log

Posted: 5 February 2014 Time: 19:20

Goals in either half from Khama Billiat and Anthony Laffor saw Mamelodi Sundowns beat Golden Arrows 2-0 in their Premiership clash at Loftus Versveld.

The result, combined with SuperSport United’s 1-0 loss to Kaizer Chiefs, also on Wednesday night, sees Sundowns up to second on the table on 28 points.

The Brazilians are closely followed by AmaZulu on 27 points and SuperSport on 26, but are a massive 11 points behind league leaders Kaizer Chiefs.

Arrows, on the other hand, find themselves at the other end of the table as they prop up the Premiership. The side from Durban are stone last with ten points, three behind Free State Stars in 15th place.

Arrows never really threatened on the night as Sundowns controlled the match from the word go.

The Brazilians opened the scoring early on as Khama Billiat headed home from 14-yards out after getting onto the end of a Bryce Moon cross from the right.

Billiat continued to be a thorn in the side of the Arrows defence with shots on goal in the 17th and 26th minute, but both narrowly missed the target.

Arrows only real chance of the half came in the 35th minute when Deon Hotto’s cross was met by Rudolph Bester, but his header was a poor one and off target.

The second 45 saw Sundowns quickly double their lead after Anthony Laffor, who had only been on the field for a minute, made no mistake when left with just the keeper to beat. He was put through on goal by Elias Pelembe and he calmly slotted home, 2-0.

Any chance of an Arrows fight back was cut slim in the 63rd minute when Manti Moholo was sent for an early shower after receiving his second yellow card.

Sundowns took their foot off the pedal after that and held on for a comfortable win.

There is something wrong with Pitso's coaching ability or capabilities. How come Nthethe walks in a team whilst he had other players training with him over a year? Mashego needs to pull up his socks, seems to me he joined Sundowns for a good pension.

I agree with U .........Mphela with experience could have played against S/sport but Sir Baxter respected other players that have been training all along. U see the difference between coaches

TatiBucs I disagree with u guys. Nthethe is better then all Sundowns centre backs, y not play him if he's available. It won't be easy 4 Killer to walk in the team that has Musona and Parker

Sundowns fans are so used to losing even a win is giving them pain. Mata went straight to Man United starting line up, Matic went straight to Chelsea starting line up. you sign a player because you need him. To those moron who say Pitso should not have played Nthethe must just shut up.
