Premier Soccer League match report Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 SuperSport

Posted: 5 February 2014 Time: 18:59

Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs won their ninth league game in a row with a 1-0 defeat of title rivals SuperSport United in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

Man of the Match Bernard Parker got the goal on his return at Peter Mokaba Stadium, which extended Amakhosi's lead at the summit to 11 points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, while United slipped to fourth in the standings.

Chiefs and SuperSport both had men sent off in optional time in the shape of Kgotso Moleko and Enocent Mkhabela.

The opening exchanges were scrappy, with Parker heading wide a Knowledge Musona cross seven minutes in.

Three minutes later United's Sameehg Doutie fired off target after Morgan Gould did well to deny Lebogang Manyama a chance to shoot in the area.

Parker then gave the hosts a somewhat soft lead 16 minutes in, as he curled a free-kick in from the left side of the box. Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams paid the price for trying to anticipate Gould getting a touch to Parker's gentle delivery, as opposed to covering his goal sufficiently.

SuperSport should have drawn level around the half-hour mark, but new signing Dino Ndlovu fluffed a one-on-one opportunity after being superbly released by fellow attacker Manyama.

Soon after, Amakhosi striker Musona turned and thundered a shot against the bottom of the upright from 20 yards out after collecting a long ball from Gould.

The visitors showed intent in the latter stages of the opening stanza but the Glamour Boys held firm at the back.

The second period got off to a slow start, with Manyama's low drive testing Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune in the 57th minute.

A few minutes later, hosting coach Stuart Baxter was forced to replace Gould with Mulomowandau Mathoho, with the former picking up a knock after a tussle with Doutie.

Chances remained at a premium for much of the second period, as SuperSport substitute David Mathebula tried his luck shortly after replacing the tiring Thuso Phala in the 69th minute. However, the ex-Moroka Swallows midfielder's strike on the run was hit straight at Khune, who made no mistake.

At the other end, Williams acrobatically pushed out a curling effort from Musona from outside the box in the 78th minute.

The young keeper was called into action repeatedly late on, as he parried away a stinging effort from Chiefs substitute Matthew Rusike, who replaced George Lebese in the 87th minute, before keeping out a shot from Parker.

The match ended on a sour note as Mkhabela received his second caution, as did Moleko in the dying stages, while United's Mor Diouf and Amakhosi's Tefu Mashamaite were booked following a pushing contest between the sides.

khosi4lifee  Truth is, coaches can make you hate players. Baxter keeping on fielding him and giving him this much of game time simply means Baxter is happy with Yeye's performance. I'm starting to hate him.

Professor_Baxter  Baxter is a problem here. Him keeping on fielding Gould ahead of Mathoho and the useless Yeye.

Hangwanie its points which matter mate. those guys complaining about players are on drugs. You do not have to play well to win the league. All you need is to score mpore goals than your opponents. Chief very balanced. They have experienced players. The problems is Kasande and his recklessness. He is not wooth watching
