Premier Soccer League match report Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 SuperSport

Posted: 5 February 2014 Time: 18:59

Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs won their ninth league game in a row with a 1-0 defeat of title rivals SuperSport United in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

Man of the Match Bernard Parker got the goal on his return at Peter Mokaba Stadium, which extended Amakhosi's lead at the summit to 11 points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, while United slipped to fourth in the standings.

Chiefs and SuperSport both had men sent off in optional time in the shape of Kgotso Moleko and Enocent Mkhabela.

The opening exchanges were scrappy, with Parker heading wide a Knowledge Musona cross seven minutes in.

Three minutes later United's Sameehg Doutie fired off target after Morgan Gould did well to deny Lebogang Manyama a chance to shoot in the area.

Parker then gave the hosts a somewhat soft lead 16 minutes in, as he curled a free-kick in from the left side of the box. Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams paid the price for trying to anticipate Gould getting a touch to Parker's gentle delivery, as opposed to covering his goal sufficiently.

SuperSport should have drawn level around the half-hour mark, but new signing Dino Ndlovu fluffed a one-on-one opportunity after being superbly released by fellow attacker Manyama.

Soon after, Amakhosi striker Musona turned and thundered a shot against the bottom of the upright from 20 yards out after collecting a long ball from Gould.

The visitors showed intent in the latter stages of the opening stanza but the Glamour Boys held firm at the back.

The second period got off to a slow start, with Manyama's low drive testing Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune in the 57th minute.

A few minutes later, hosting coach Stuart Baxter was forced to replace Gould with Mulomowandau Mathoho, with the former picking up a knock after a tussle with Doutie.

Chances remained at a premium for much of the second period, as SuperSport substitute David Mathebula tried his luck shortly after replacing the tiring Thuso Phala in the 69th minute. However, the ex-Moroka Swallows midfielder's strike on the run was hit straight at Khune, who made no mistake.

At the other end, Williams acrobatically pushed out a curling effort from Musona from outside the box in the 78th minute.

The young keeper was called into action repeatedly late on, as he parried away a stinging effort from Chiefs substitute Matthew Rusike, who replaced George Lebese in the 87th minute, before keeping out a shot from Parker.

The match ended on a sour note as Mkhabela received his second caution, as did Moleko in the dying stages, while United's Mor Diouf and Amakhosi's Tefu Mashamaite were booked following a pushing contest between the sides.

I cannot understand how we keep Siyabonga Nkosi and Maluleke on the bench when we have the Bafana Bafana fumbling playas in Letsolonyane and Shabalala fumbling on the field . Shabalala gets far too easily dispossessed and he is not marking . He must be a man and stop being so weak and ineffective or sit on the bench. Yeye fumbles with the ball . He marks the opponents very well the next thing he pass the ball back to the opponent . He cannot dish out a simple pass to the team mate . My grandmother is a better pasa of the ball than Yeye . Why sit with Nkosi on the bench ,someone that can pass u a good ball with his eyes closed .

Ted Dumitru is right ,Bafana Bafazi playas are not serious and I can see it right in this match with Shabba and Yeye . They must follow their friend Major '' Pre-Contract'' majoro if they are not serious

khosi4lifee  Yeye and Shabba need to sit 3 games out. Those guys are not putting their 100. Yeye and losing possession has been his trademark of late. For me Nkosi has done the previous games he played.

I preached for their exclusion for months. People kept defending them. We have players raring to go on that bench and yet Bax keeps fielding them.

Fumigator  This Bafana players tag hanging on their names is what it is getting them positions in the first XI. Yeye hasn't done anything of late. Poor passes and not creative enough when going forward.
