Premier Soccer League match report Kaizer Chiefs 1-0 SuperSport

Posted: 5 February 2014 Time: 18:59

Premiership champions Kaizer Chiefs won their ninth league game in a row with a 1-0 defeat of title rivals SuperSport United in Polokwane on Wednesday night.

Man of the Match Bernard Parker got the goal on his return at Peter Mokaba Stadium, which extended Amakhosi's lead at the summit to 11 points ahead of second-placed Mamelodi Sundowns, while United slipped to fourth in the standings.

Chiefs and SuperSport both had men sent off in optional time in the shape of Kgotso Moleko and Enocent Mkhabela.

The opening exchanges were scrappy, with Parker heading wide a Knowledge Musona cross seven minutes in.

Three minutes later United's Sameehg Doutie fired off target after Morgan Gould did well to deny Lebogang Manyama a chance to shoot in the area.

Parker then gave the hosts a somewhat soft lead 16 minutes in, as he curled a free-kick in from the left side of the box. Matsatsantsa goalkeeper Ronwen Williams paid the price for trying to anticipate Gould getting a touch to Parker's gentle delivery, as opposed to covering his goal sufficiently.

SuperSport should have drawn level around the half-hour mark, but new signing Dino Ndlovu fluffed a one-on-one opportunity after being superbly released by fellow attacker Manyama.

Soon after, Amakhosi striker Musona turned and thundered a shot against the bottom of the upright from 20 yards out after collecting a long ball from Gould.

The visitors showed intent in the latter stages of the opening stanza but the Glamour Boys held firm at the back.

The second period got off to a slow start, with Manyama's low drive testing Chiefs skipper Itumeleng Khune in the 57th minute.

A few minutes later, hosting coach Stuart Baxter was forced to replace Gould with Mulomowandau Mathoho, with the former picking up a knock after a tussle with Doutie.

Chances remained at a premium for much of the second period, as SuperSport substitute David Mathebula tried his luck shortly after replacing the tiring Thuso Phala in the 69th minute. However, the ex-Moroka Swallows midfielder's strike on the run was hit straight at Khune, who made no mistake.

At the other end, Williams acrobatically pushed out a curling effort from Musona from outside the box in the 78th minute.

The young keeper was called into action repeatedly late on, as he parried away a stinging effort from Chiefs substitute Matthew Rusike, who replaced George Lebese in the 87th minute, before keeping out a shot from Parker.

The match ended on a sour note as Mkhabela received his second caution, as did Moleko in the dying stages, while United's Mor Diouf and Amakhosi's Tefu Mashamaite were booked following a pushing contest between the sides.

@Makezo, I also don't know why there was a retake of that free kick, all I am saying is I saw it from the first minute that the ref is going to have a shocker of a game - Bevan Fransman headed the ball out of play and the ref awarded Supersport the throw in, George Lebese was on side and the assistant flagged him offside, Shabba was also on side from a counter attack move and the linesman flagged him offside again, so I could say we would have scored from that move, so we can't say the ref was biased because there are a lot of decisions that went against Chiefs, there was also a freekick that he gave against Morgan Gould which wasn't a free-kick.

@Champions league Silver medal - I know we are rivals and all, however when presenting an argument bring facts to the table.  to you that looks like a lucky goal, however looking at the execution of that free kick you can actually see that a lot of work has been put in working on set pieces at training sessions.  The confusion for the Supersport defense came in when there were a couple of players who were standing in an offside position, when the free kick was played, they ran in the opposite direction of Morgan Gould and Mashamaite, so the S/sport defenders didn't know which runners to go with, which resulted in the goal! but I am sure this talk is all higher grade to you so I don't expect you to relate!

Chiefs can still go wwwwwwwwwwwwwww=15 on the trot only if bra K can walk in to the team talk room and tell them that Q3 and Q4 plus 5 million rands can be shared among themselves. They can draw 7.Done deal

If they believe, and we all khosies believe too,it will happen.

In Africa win the first 5 and draw 1 = to group stages. This feat is achievable.

Hawueeeeeeeng banna.I don't expect any comments from any foes.
