PSL match reaction Tinkler salutes Orlando Pirates character following come-from-behind win over Bidvest Wits

Posted: 4 February 2014 Time: 21:46

Orlando Pirates caretaker coach Eric Tinkler applauded his men for showing "great character" in their come-from-behind 2-1 victory over Bidvest Wits on Tuesday night.

Tinkler made a winning start to his tenure in Mayfair thanks to second-half goals from new signing Helder Pelembe and substitute Kermit Erasmus, with Students captain Sibusiso Vilakazi on target for the visitors at Orlando Stadium.

Tinkler, who replaced Roger de Sa in the Bucs hotseat last week, said: "The boys showed great character in the second half, and I'm very proud of them.

"It's been a difficult week but they've showed a great, professional attitude at training, and we saw that in the second half."

The former Clever Boys midfielder and tactician added: "We have got a very good squad, which is important as we have got value on the bench.

"Kermit came on and helped change things, [Mpho] Makola and others also contributed."

Meanwhile, Wits mentor Gavin Hunt blamed the lengthy league break for his side's underwhelming display in Soweto. Hunt's charges' previous Premiership match was against Bloemfontein Celtic on December 21.

"What do you expect when we haven't played for seven or so weeks, and they've played three or four games?

"We were always going to be rusty, if you don't have that match intensity, you're going to struggle."

I hope you've learned your lesson Tinkler that 4-4-2 is the way to go. That RDS's 4-5-1 was never good for us and it didn't yield any results.

The team that finished the game should start against Sundowns, with the exception of Senzo Meyiwa.

Please Tinkler, the second half performance and subs is what you should build on, that is your winning combination, just bench Meyiwa, then you'll enjoy your stay at OP.

still don't have faith in rogers helper, he must prove himself by collecting maximum points in remaining games, starting with Sunclows!

now that you've seen that RDS methods don't work. Start with 2 strikers. Good subs made on time. Dankie Tinkler

So Gavin Hunt didn't know what to say during his post match interview. He's blaming rusty, blaming PSL and even blaming Matlaba for overlaping too much for his liking. You've got to love this country

If it was a Chiefs goal we wouldn't hear the end of it. Anyway well done to Rats and Khethowakhe 'I Deserved To Be Man Of The Match' Masuku. But the gap remains gold!

pelembe is a pirates material. well play in the first half but was just in short of support, still fussy with gcaba and meyiwa though cos we still concede in the absence of RDS. tinkler hope the second half of the match was an eye opener for you. ERUSMAS + PELEMBE = goallsss...

I Salute my technical team and the players for fighting spirit.

Lets continue boys and very soon they will feel us again.

Tinkler this is good start indeed. Giving boys freedom to express themselves was vital.

Galaxies were relax and very comfortable on the ball.

RDS was very strict and too hash on players.

Masuku dankie mfana for accurate crosses and work rate.

Matlaba and Jele should have buried the student but am happy with the runs they've made on the box.

I start to believe in Tinkler as he wa spot on with substitutions.

Now number 6 and that's why we say Up the Bucs!

Senzo is costing us, when a steiker doesnt score goals a new steiker must be given a change. I guess when goal kepper is out of form a new goal kepper must given a chance . Please bench Meyiwa agaisnt Sundunusa

Thank you Tinkler...only if you can rest Meyiwa and maybe drop Lekgwathi and Gcaba. Start building the team using youngsters... Your approach to the game was very positive and inspiring. The way you interact on the touchline with your players creates and builds positiveness to players...
