WWWWWWWW - Chiefs make it eight wins!

Posted: 31 January 2014 Time: 19:53

Kaizer Chiefs beat Moroka Swallows 2-0 at Dobsonville Stadium to extend their winning run to eight matches.

Kingston Nkhatha scored the opening goal after just three minutes, finishing past Greg Etafia after being played in by Siphiwe Tshabalala.

Knowledge Musona then got the second after the break courtesy of a sublime chip.

Amakhosi were all over the Dube Birds in the initial stages and it came as no surprise when Nkhatha drew first blood as early as the third minute. The Zimbabwean marksman benefitted from a great pass from Shabba and kept his cool to shoot past the goalie.

Moments later, Shabba could have put Chiefs further ahead when he beat two defenders as he made his way to the box, but his shot was just wide with Etafia at his mercy.

Swallows finally got going in the 18th minute when they were awarded a free kick but Dikgang Mabalane's attempt was way over the bar.

In the 24th minute, Khune and Mulomowandau Mathoho failed to communicate allowing Edward Manqele to sneak in but with the opportunity presenting itself the latter couldn't control the ball as it hit his left leg and went out for a goal kick.

Terminator was back at it a minute later but his shot from a tight angle was not good enough to beat Khune.

The score was 1-0 to Chiefs at the break.

Swallows started the second half the better side pushing players forward in search of an equaliser.

In the 49th minute, Mabalane put in a dangerous cross for Chabangu, whose glancing header forced Khune to parry the ball for a corner which was then cleared by Chiefs' defence.

Sensing defeat, Swallows coach Zeca Marques brought in attacking midfielder Tshwarelo Bereng for Giorgi Nergadze.

Chiefs were then forced into a change in the 63rd minute. Goal scorer Nkhatha had to come off injured after he couldn't recover from an earlier collission with Etafia when challenging for a ball in Swallows' box.

As if that was not enough, Tsepo Masilela hobbled off injured in the 70th minute with Morgan Gould taking his place.

Chances were far and few between at this stage, but subsitute Siyabonga Nkosi, who replaced Nkhatha in the 63rd minute, got a pass from Knowledge Musona but curled his shot wide.

Amakhosi were not to be denied a second, though.

Musona broke away from the Swallows defence in the 72nd minute and chipped the ball over Etafia to make it 2-0 for the log leaders and reigning League champions.

It could have got worse for the Birds when Larry Cohen brought Nkosi down when clean through on goal, but the referee opted to show only a yellow.

Despite Swallows' attempts to fight back, Chiefs held on to walk with three points making it eight wins in a row and going eleven points clear at the top.
