Milano United sign Welcome Qalanto and Broderick Burds

Milano United have underlined their intentions to keep their NFD title challenge alive with the addition of Welcome Qalanto and Broderick Burds to their squad.

The NFD promotion hopefuls have already signed Auguston Leonard from Bloemfontein Celtic, and have now bolstered their squad further with Qalanto, was last on the books of Golden Arrows, and Burds, who has been signed from Jomo Cosmos.

Former Moroka Swallows youth product Leonard can play at right-back or up front, while Burds is a direct and speedy 21-year-old left-winger from Johannesburg who has experience playing in the Absa Premiership, having made his debut for Ezenkosi back in 2011.

Striker Qalanto was a crucial cog in the Chippa United side last season, his eight goals in the top-flight nearly having helped the Chilli Boys survive the drop.

The signings were officially confirmed by Milano spokesman Sean Ferrier, who explained the reasoning behind the new additions.

“It’s no secret that our form away from home has not been good and the technical team decided to address this issue by bringing in some experienced players who know what it's like to play all over South Africa.

“With due respect to the rest of the squad who we still have a strong belief in, the club decided we needed some more experienced players and we are confident they will help us improve our away form in particular.

“The new players will be able to impart their knowledge on some of our younger players; the idea is to make sure we have the right mix of experience and youth.”
