Dino Ndlovu not going back to Maccabi Haifa

Posted: 17 January 2014 Time: 14:48

New SuperSport United signing Dino Ndlovu says he is not planning to return to Maccabi Haifa after his six-month loan deal expires.

READ: SuperSport sign Ndlovu on loan

The former Bloemfontein Celtic striker still has two-and-a-half years remaining with the Israeli side, but he says going back is not an option.

“No, I don’t want to go back there,” Ndlovu tells “I’ve had difficulties there over the last three months and asked the team to loan me out, this after the club’s fans racially abused me.

“The fans were booing me and told me to go home to Uganda, so I could not bear the fact that I was away from home and I’m a foreigner, so that’s why I came home.”

However, the 23-year-old insists a return to Europe remains his priority.

“My first priority was to stay in Europe, but the club was blocking my move because they wanted a lot of money,” Ndlovu adds. “So I sat down with my manager and we spoke, and I said he must find me a club in South Africa for loan.”

Although he still contracted to Maccabi, Ndlovu says the club has agreed to sell him to other club should there be interest.

I don't mean to be rude but that's a typical South African attitude.  Wena Dino, you should try to find out how the likes of Eto' went through and are still going through.  Focus more on your career than what is perceived as 'negative' otherwise you won't grow.

You've jumped from a frying pan straight to the fire, son. Come Saturday, you will endure tribalism of the highest order from some fans; tuck some cotton wool in them ears boy. Dont say you were not advised. These are just some of the occupational "rewards" of this game.

Israelis are some of the most racist nation in this planet.

The Game Not to defend him or anything, BUT there are two things in what you are saying:

1. Comparison with Eto and the like; those are elite players with real contracts that pay them well; it would take Ndlovu a lifetime to achieve that. So there is reward for Eto to stay on.

2. Racism has a history with South AFricans, we have come a long way with it and what it did to this nation; if in a foreign land somebody opens up those wounds again, you are bound to capitulate not due to weakness but emotional knocks. Remember, no recourse could be served to an African in Israel. Just like in apartheid RSA, their racism is institutionalized.

as a Maccabi Haifa fan, I'm shamed to read this.

the player got kicked off the team because he was not contributing to us, we paid alot for a player that did nothing on the pitch.

not in the league nor in the European campaign.

Maccabi Haifa is a non racist team which built off both Jewish and Arabic players, and African players such as Yaacobo, Fantini, Mesilala, and planty others..

the fans were tired of his weak performance, and wished for different strikers!

he ought to be a shamed to tell these false "facts"..

Look you are a foreigner in their country which means you must be exceptional. So since you were not scoring and were always injured they figured they should boo you. Did you hear that in Mzansi we also boo aboMabena and AboNkatha? Be a man my son.

Mriyo (RDS n David Moyes r pure failures)

Hitler also wanted to kill black people you ignorant idiot...

I'm a Maccabi Haifa fan.

We did not booed him because he is black! We did it because his connection to Football is totally random.

The best player that EVER played for Maccabi Haifa was black, Yakubu Aiyegbeni.

hello, i am a supporter of Maccabi Haifa for over two decades and i am disappointed from this interview and from the comment section here.

Just to clarify a few things..

Maccabbi Haifa is a team devoted to fight against racism for many years.

our fan base consists of Jews,Arabs, drupe and more and all from different religions or no religion at all, who come to the stadium to support the team in harmony.

over the years our roster consisted of many players from different continents, most famous being

Yakubu Aiyegbeni. no player of ours was racially abused by us and racist behavior during football matches  is condemned by the Israeli football association, teams are punished with heavy fines and  several home games without supporters.

now  Ndlovu did receive a fair share of booing but from other reasons than he described

for once, he is not a good enough player to be on our roster, especially for a foreign player (in israel each team can only have up to 5 foreign players, therefore these players are supposed to be of higher caliber than the local players  and Ndlovu was basically holding  of a spot for a good productive player)

the other, and more major reason for the booing is his behavior off the court. for example, a few hours after losing an important derby match he was seen celebrating  in a night club. a behavior that does not sit well by the fans. another example is his constant inappropriate tweets   and interviews in which he slanders the club or takes credit for "changing the dynamic of the game" or something of that sort, while everybody in the stadium have seen things differently.

it's like he is on a parallel universe sometimes..

anyway i wish him good luck with his dreams about europe and  i wish he could have ended his spell with us on better terms.
