Pattison replaces injured Shongwe Bafana Bafana Chan African Nations championship

Posted: 8 January 2014 Time: 12:21

Bidvest Wits midfielder Matty Pattison has been called up to the national squad for Chan to replace the injured Jabulani Shongwe.

Mamelodi Sundowns' Shongwe damaged his groin in yesterday's 1-0 victory over National First Division side Milano United in a practice match in Cape Town.

The 27-year-old Pattison, who was once on the books of Premier League pair Newcastle United and Norwich, has two international caps.

Bafana Bafana will open the tournament against Mozambique at Cape Town Stadium on Saturday.

Im stl shocked by Gordon's lack of on earth do we keep the tried n tested fo a development tourney like this? Safa had the audacity to harass n bully chiefs, sundowns n wits over their players, why?r we so desperate to win Chan?what does it say to our vision n youth development?

why in SA when players ar not playing for Chiefs, Pirates or Sundown do not get a fair chance to play in a National team. When this guy was still in the books of Chiefs he was seen as person who has potential for Bafana

Friendly game is when you can play Lebese Mabena, Baloyi Bacela. In a tournament one has to be despatate to win. Otherwise what's the point?

It should have been michael morton that gets chosen ahead of this player. He is also good.

Kaizer should be buying either morton or pattison and release katsande.

Rampies I'm certain he never played for Kaizer Chiefs. Maybe u referring to Botswana Chiefs. Anyway to answer your question, Chiefs is the biggest team in mzansi go ask SAFA president Jordan and Bafana Coach Gordon they will tell u, that's y SAFA run after Kaizer Motaung to release the players. Pie-rats are an oldest team team in mzansi that's y they select their players based on existence of the club. Sign-downs are more like paraffin team, their players play only one season and the next season they are loaned (NOT SOLD) to various teams, so if you check, Bafana select only newly signed players there.
