Orlando Pirates kept up their winning momentum in the League with a 3-1 win over Golden Arrows at Orlando Stadium this afternoon.
Happy Jele got the opening goal of the match, before Gift Sithole equalised for the visitors two minutes later. Oupa Manyisa's brace, however, made sure of the much-needed points for Bucs.
Pirates took the lead in the 13th minute after some poor defending from Arrows. From a corner, Lucky Lekgwathi had a header on target saved by Ryan Harrison, but the keeper fumbled the ball and Jele hit home on the rebound.
Arrows immediately went in search of a reply, and were rewarded soon after, when Sithole headed home expertly from a corner kick.
The players and match officials took a water break midway through the first half owing to the soaring heat at Orlando Stadium on a typical summer afternoon.
The interval proved consequential, as Pirates capitalised on Arrows' loss of concentration, when immediately from the restart Jele sent in a low cross which Manyisa slammed home from close range.
In the 52nd minute Sithole could have levelled for his side again, with another powerful header from a corner, but the ball was brilliantly parried over the bar by Meyiwa, who showed lightning quick reactions for the save.
Sifso Myeni was then denied a goal, after showing some wonderful footwork to lose his marker and releasing a snap shot inside the box, but Harrison made a good save from close range.
Then, deep into injury time, Daine Klate picked out Manyisa and, with Arrows defence all at sea, 'Ace' made it three with a simple finish.
The result takes Pirates to 11th on the log, while Arrows stay rooted to the bottom.
