PSL match report: Orlando Pirates vs University of Pretoria

Posted: 19 December 2013 Time: 18:34

Orlando Pirates edged University of Pretoria 1-0 at Orlando Stadium on Thursday night.

The Buccaneers did not quite click in attack in the same way they did in their 3-0 win at Platinum Stars earlier this week, but a second-half strike from Oupa Manyisa was enough to secure them all three points.

Pirates created the first clear chance on goal on 13 minutes, when Kermit Erasmus sent a powerful effort on target. The ball was punched back to him by goalkeeper Washington Arubi, but he could not make anything of the second chance.

The stocky striker had another effort on goal on the half-hour mark, getting a header on target from Daine Klate's cross, but it was an easy save for Arubi.

Erasmus was clearly Pirates' liveliest player in attack, and had another snap shot from just inside the penalty area in the dying seconds of the first half, but the ball flashed wide of the far post.

Tuks rarely threatened in the first 45 minutes, but early in the second stanza striker Geoffrey Massa forced a sharp save from Senzo Meyiwa with a well-struck shot, before wasting a free header seconds later.

On 53 minutes Pirates took the lead with what the visitors may consider a soft goal. Sifiso Myeni cut inside from the right and shot with his left, and while Arubi appeared to have it covered, Manyisa arrived out of nowhere to divert the ball past the keeper for his second goal this week.

Tuks attacker Mpho Maruping should have taken advantage of some sloppy defending from the hosts with just a quarter hour to play, as he burst through the defenders before sending a low shot just wide of the far post.

We don't need dubious penalty to win games

We score beautiful goals in an open play.

That's why we reached CAF champions league final

That's why we reached 2 plastic trophies final.

Bucs is back by popular demand and Bucs phobia is hear to stay.

Gay club on top of the log must warm the top seat for us, we're coming!

Up the Bucs!!!

Buccaneer, we're not a Ghana development team.

Bucs is a SA club hence 99% of players are locally based.

You must call on Gautrain, Bacela etc.

Am not xenophobic but we must develop SA based players.

Dauda's time will come at the right time.

Yah neh ! i believe when they say Pirates has depth. One team playing in the PSL and another in the World Club championship. That must be a record. Mara Kickoff yona hates Pirates. Why are they not reporting on Pirates success in the World Club championship ?

Trebble by December FC ! kwaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa

Champions league silver medal You are so stupid you can't see that your name only remind your fellow dagga smoking fans of the heartbreak of failing to win that Second Star you spoke about until you foamed in the mouth.

Ivan "The Chemist" Cossa and his nyatsi Manto are gonna have huge headaches this weekend. Arrows are always expected to be screwed by Chibuku FC on and off the pitch and deliver 6 points to Chibuku every season. Now what are they gonna do this time because both of them are in the relegation zone ?

Fact remains Pierats is a small team. Most of the game are shown on supersport 4 because thats the channel for PsL games. And Chiefs game will never br shown anywhere except ss4.

Dankie ace for wonderful goals in 3 days.

RDS please give Mpho Makola a chance please.

Put Myeni on the bench and play Mpho or Masuku.

Erusmus misses lots of chances as he just shoot unnecessary.

I like his work rate and runs but he must convert.

Gautrain and Bacela are being punished for missing clear chances against Ahly.

Players must be countable for poor finishing.
