PSL match report: Golden Arrows vs Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 19 December 2013 Time: 18:29

Bernard Parker got the only goal of the game as Kaizer Chiefs heaped more misery on Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Thursday evening.

The win helped Amakhosi to the top of the table with 27 points, three ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.

Arrows remain bottom of the log, with 10 points – three less than Orlando Pirates, who have played half the number of League matches.

The first chance of the game fell to Siphiwe Tshabalala in the 14th minute, but he fired wide.

Knowledge Musona then forced Ryan Harrison into a save from inside the box in the 26th minute.

Both sides created opportunities after the half-hour mark. Reneilwe Letsholonyane shot over the crossbar in the 33rd minute, before Bongi Ntuli came close to poking the ball past Itumeleng Khune four minutes later.

Amakhosi were then denied by both posts and crossbar. First, in the 39th minute, Nkanyiso Mgwengwe came close to turning the ball into his own net, only to be saved by the crossbar.

Siboniso Gaxa should have done better from the rebound but rushed his header onto the post, with the goalkeeper out of the picture.

Siyabonga Nkosi then came close to scoring against his former team on the stroke of half-time but his shot shaved the outside of the upright.

But Chiefs finally went ahead three minutes into the second half, when Mzuvukile Tom was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box. Parker converted his penalty with ease, for his seventh League goal of the season.

Ntuli could have equalised for the home side at the other end less than a minute later but Khune dove forward to keep his low effort out.

Both sides continued to give away possession unnecessarily in the midfield, although in the 69th minute Tshabalala forced a decent low save from Harrison, who dived to his right to palm the ball wide.

Arrows had two late chances to salvage a point, with Ntuli being denied by a good save from Khune in the 80th minute, who also came off his line to deny Philani Shange eight minutes later.

It is not fair that Bernard Parker is pushed to be the PSL leading goalscorer. If my memory still serves me correctly, that did not work last time. Why can't others (e.g. Musona) take penalties. Musona gets fouled and win penalties tiimeously, but he does not take them, why?

Well another 3 points in the bag. But we were lucky and at the same time we were unlucky. We hit the post 3 times and missed a couple more sitters yet Arrows could have eqaulised and even won the game.

Guys is there a rule in soccer that says a team cannot be given more than 1 penalty in a game ? I mean we were denied 3 clear penalties by the ref. Damn

Somebody must go to naturena and ask how Baxter select his team. We are not entirely happy with how he treats other players. We might be celebrating this win but the way he's handling things doesn't show professionalism, how could he leave Mathoho after such intense giving in the game and to the club?

This Baxter thing is just gonna cause division amongst players! He's a fool, bloody fool man!

These are the kind of games thats needs Nkhata. I bet you with my galfriend we would have won. Gould ne few games on the bench so does Nkosi and Letsholonyane. We need his replacement ASAP. And i agree shabba was poor today.

Swagga njastyle, I agree with you, but something you need to play smart if you want to win the league. The coach need to give other players a fair chance. I hate when the coach user Morgan, Mathoho is man

Hai baxter has succeeded in turning KC into an avarage team, his defensiv tactics will hurt us one day, how can a team have so many defenders on the bench? He is getting too comfortable at chiefs, even if chiefs can buy good attacking midfielders they won't play cs he is obssesd with defenders, richie, bukeya, mathoho, on the bench? Last game it was gould, moleko, bukeya and richie. We not going anywher with baxter
