PSL match report: Golden Arrows vs Kaizer Chiefs

Posted: 19 December 2013 Time: 18:29

Bernard Parker got the only goal of the game as Kaizer Chiefs heaped more misery on Golden Arrows at Moses Mabhida Stadium on Thursday evening.

The win helped Amakhosi to the top of the table with 27 points, three ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns, who have a game in hand.

Arrows remain bottom of the log, with 10 points – three less than Orlando Pirates, who have played half the number of League matches.

The first chance of the game fell to Siphiwe Tshabalala in the 14th minute, but he fired wide.

Knowledge Musona then forced Ryan Harrison into a save from inside the box in the 26th minute.

Both sides created opportunities after the half-hour mark. Reneilwe Letsholonyane shot over the crossbar in the 33rd minute, before Bongi Ntuli came close to poking the ball past Itumeleng Khune four minutes later.

Amakhosi were then denied by both posts and crossbar. First, in the 39th minute, Nkanyiso Mgwengwe came close to turning the ball into his own net, only to be saved by the crossbar.

Siboniso Gaxa should have done better from the rebound but rushed his header onto the post, with the goalkeeper out of the picture.

Siyabonga Nkosi then came close to scoring against his former team on the stroke of half-time but his shot shaved the outside of the upright.

But Chiefs finally went ahead three minutes into the second half, when Mzuvukile Tom was adjudged to have handled the ball inside the box. Parker converted his penalty with ease, for his seventh League goal of the season.

Ntuli could have equalised for the home side at the other end less than a minute later but Khune dove forward to keep his low effort out.

Both sides continued to give away possession unnecessarily in the midfield, although in the 69th minute Tshabalala forced a decent low save from Harrison, who dived to his right to palm the ball wide.

Arrows had two late chances to salvage a point, with Ntuli being denied by a good save from Khune in the 80th minute, who also came off his line to deny Philani Shange eight minutes later.

No Manqele....no Manyama, not even Mofotsek....me no watch dis game.....lol. As for Mathoho, you will one day wish you took the same decision as Majoro. With Svasiya on the return, you will be pushed further back on the pecking order or u wanna act as a striker, ask Majoro again.....u won't win against Baxter's beloved Zims

Does Baxter critically watch previous games' tapes? and if he does, do u think he's happy with Gould's contribution? and he is, then his coaching leaves a lot to be desired...

Is gould better than Mathoho that's why Majoro left he played well past 2 games and no benched Baxter is killing chiefs with favouritism finish and klaar ever since gould is back chiefs concede left right centre

Mara Baxter ore tlwaela blind neh. Why would he field Gould after such a disgrace he did on his last game and after Mathoho had performed 110%? Mxm he must leave now, we'll boo him. I do understand Majoro's situation, but with Mathoho he's just losing it now
