With the arrival of no less than 11 players from Brazil ahead of the new season, the Absa Premiership is likely to take on a new beat, a mix of samba drums and vuvuzelas.
Bidvest Wits University duo of midfielders Fabricio Rodrigues da Silva and David de Oliveira along with forward Andrey Almeida arrived at the weekend from the former club, Sao Paulo.
Moroka Swallows’ trio of Davi Rancan, Candido da Silva and Igor Alves are already feathering their nest.
Details of five other Brazilians who are currently training with Golden Arrows is being kept a closely guarded secret by Abafana Bes’thende.
Arrows’ coach Manqoba Mngqithi made a special trip to Brazil during the off season and four of his South American brigade has already been in South Africa for almost a month, training behind closed doors.
Wits’ chief executive Stan Whiting said the arrival of their three Brazilians on a loan deal was the beginning of the club’s partnership with Sao Paolo.
The Clever Boys are currently endeavouring to relaunch their Abafana Abahlakaniphile supporters’ club and could be hoping that the new arrivals will lead to a more attacking style of play under Roger da Sa.
