PSL match report: Platinum Stars vs Orlando Pirates

Posted: 16 December 2013 Time: 15:11

After a first-half blitz Orlando Pirates got the revenge they were looking for with a 3-0 win over Platinum Stars today.

Goals from Thandani Ntshumayelo, Oupa Manyisa and Dlaine Klate, all scored in the first half-hour of the game, went some way in restoring Pirates' pride, after their two cup final losses to Dikwena this season.

Stars were never in the game, lacked their usual intensity and were comfortably second best against a rampant Pirates, who were inspired by Kermit Erasmus up front.

Bucs might have been ahead inside two minutes when Ayanda Gcaba headed over the bar from Manyisa's cross, but they did not have to wait long for their opener.

Sifiso Myeni played in Erasmus with a great ball and the latter crossed to the back post for Ntshumayelo to turn home.

Erasmus then had the ball in the back of the net, but it was wrongly ruled out for offside.

Pirates soon did have their second though, Manyisa scoring after Erasmus found space on the left and provided an excellent square-ball for the midfielder to turn home.

Klate made it 3-0 with another fine move and again Erasmus was the provider. His run terrorised the Stars defence and he then laid on the perfect ball into the path of Klate to side-foot past Siyabonga Mpontshane in the home goal.

The unlucky Erasmus came close to a goal when he was played one-on-one with Mpontshane, but his poked effort at goal was blocked by the goalkeeper and eventually trickled just wide.

Next up for Pirates is a meeting with University of Pretoria at Orlando Stadium on Thursday, while Stars will finish their 2013 programme with an away trip to Ajax Cape Town on Saturday night.

@Mhlonitshwa & Thato to fans three points its nothing but to supporters three points means something especially if the club is catching up with the rest of the teams in terms of games played.

leburu It was a different strategy implemented today... We didn't have a holding striker like we normally do. Platinum defence was troubled by the movements that Kermit was making upfront. He gave them a hell of a time. Usually it's easier for the defence to mark a striker who is not mobile (e.g Bacela and Mbesuma). I think the game plan won the game for the team today.

Watched 40min of this game and it looks to me like rats have abandoned tika taka and used transition football 101 in this game, very quick counters and movement of the ball..

Stars players were not serious about this match, they even wore surfing shorts signalling that after the match they're off to Durban to spend their TKO bonuses..

meanwhile rodents thought this was the 2nd leg ya-final..shame!

Rats have no BMT(I.e.have no BALLZ) they win games where there is no pressure, put them in a pressure game like a cup final and they can't deliver a victory..

El Sol you can say what ever hater ,you are yet to make any final and compete like champs as you claim,we even grossed more that that platinum stars and you are yet to get any cent or reach any final....

Cowditor you are ratfaithfool and you can nolonger hide it. You call this a revenge. You know stars beat this silver team twice. Again you knew it will be hard for stars to play a weak team after beating them twice to claim a cup. Hell stars is still celebrating they were just honoring the game.

It is too stupid of any supporter who instead of bragging about cups his team won brags about money they got for losing. Losers mentality at it worst

You played in three cup finals and are still defending champions of nothing

posted: 2013-12-16 16:13:21

oh then explain to me the importancy of perfoming good when not under pressure and choke when it matters most please?? Im still heartbroken about losing the TKO and it will take a major cup to heal this wound unfortunately i dont see Roger doing that. The last 3 cup finals support my statement.
