2013 Cosafa Under-20 Championships Amajita

Posted: 12 December 2013 Time: 17:30

South Africa have advanced to the Final of the 2013 Cosafa Under-20 Championships after a 4-3 penalty shoot-out victory over Zimbabwe in their semi-final in Lesotho on Thursday.

Amajita played half the game with 10 men after the sending off of goalkeeper Jody February, but managed to hold the Zimbabweans goalless after the 90 minutes.

They then held their nerve in the shoot-out to triumph and reach their first regional final since 2009.

There were chances at either end, South Africa’s Nhlakanipho Ntuli poking wide when one-on-one with the goalkeeper the best of them.

But Amajita were reduced to 10 men in first-half injury-time when February was sent-off for handball out side the penalty area as he came to clear the danger and was beaten by the bounce.

It was the correct decision from the match officials, though the Zimbabwe striker did look suspiciously offside when the ball was played through.

February was replaced by Dumisani Msibi and the latter made a number of fine stops in the second period in an assured performance.

The game finished 0-0 though and with no extra-time to be played, went straight to a penalty shoot-out.

South Africa will play either Kenya or Angola in Saturday’s final, with their semi-final played later on Thursday. Zimbabwe will meet the loser of that tie in the third-place play-off.

Congratulation boys you really showed character, playing the better part of the game with one man down. This is the future Bafana team that will represent us in 2018 world cup, and I've no doubt about that.

These boys must be kept together... These are the players that should be regulars at reserve leagues, we need a reserve/junior league that is professionally run. Eintlik most of these players would be regulars at some PSL clubs
