PSL match report: Kaizer Chiefs vs Polokwane City

Posted: 27 November 2013 Time: 19:03

Kaizer Chiefs put four past Polokwane City in a League clash on Wednesday evening.

Chiefs produced a masterful performance at Soccer City, with Bernard Parker scoring a brace, and Mulomowandau Mathoho and Kingston Nkhatha a goal each.

Puleng Tlolane got City’s consolation goal at the death, while Josta Dladla succumbed to a silly red card.

The home side were quick out of the blocks and showed their intention to dominate, and on five minutes centre-back Mathoho received the ball from Parker just inside the box and placed his shot perfectly beyond Modiri Marumo.

The referee brought a halt to the match in the 13th minute after persistent lightning above the stadium, and there was a 45 minute break in play.

Amakhosi were not unsettled, however, and added to their lead soon after the restart.

It was a comedy of errors at the back for the away side as centre-backs Thapelo Tshilo and Vukile Mngqibisa failed to communicate, resulting in a horrendous clearance which Nkhatha blocked and hit home from close range for his third League goal of the season.

Chiefs piled more misery on Boebie Solomons’s charges when they made it 3-0 just inside 32 minutes.

Left-winger George Lebese provided an inch-perfect cross for Parker, who was on the edge of the box, and the striker unleashed a powerful diving header for his fifth League goal of the season.

Stuart Baxter brought on Reyaad Pieterse for Itumeleng Khune at half-time, the word from the stadium being that the coach wanted to give the back-up goalkeeper some time on the pitch and rest his first choice.

Parker then grabbed his brace on the hour mark, receiving the ball from Lebese again and making space for himself just outside the box before letting rip with a powerful left-footed shot which hit the roof of the net.

In the 83rd minute Dladla was sent for an early shower when the referee gave him two yellow cards in a matter of seconds; the first for a mistimed tackle and the second for continuous protestation.

Three minutes from time City scored a consolation goal when Tlolane beat the static Chiefs defence and netted from close range, as Pieterse tried to close him down.

HOME: Kaizer Chiefs

Coach: Stuart Baxter
Formation: four two three one

AWAY: Polokwane City

Coach: Boebie Solomons

Good win, congrats Amakhosi! However, one has to look back and wonder with great degree of concern about YeYe, what will it take for him to score a one-on-one with keeper? His clearly becoming an ordinary player in my book, lack of competition has fooled him to let his gut down, YeYe seriously need to shape-up!

Hurt by Dladlas send off, but like Gould, myb its a blessing in disguise, Moleko will be introduced hopefully! Mathoho came and delivered!

Demolish my foot. Our players are really amateurish sometimes. When you get a team that is dead like that why not score 10 goals ? It is allowed to score as many goals as possible in soccer hence Man City handed my beloved Spurs a 6-0 drubbing over the wknd. Barca regularly give teams that go to the Nou Camp to admire the skills of Messi and co merciless drubbings. I'm really not happy with that scoreline.
