Jeffrey Ntuka's killer April Jao jailed

Posted: 25 November 2013 Time: 13:07

Jeffrey Ntuka’s killer has been jailed following his appearance at Kroonstad Magistrate court last week.

Ntuka, who was in Chelsea’s books as a youngster and later played for Kaizer Chiefs and SuperSport United after a stint at Westerlo in Belgium, was killed in January 2012.

April Jao, who committed the crime, appeared in court on Thursday and paid the price.

“I was there in court,” Ntuka’s brother Thabo tells

“He was given 12 years and we were disappointed, but they explained. The guy is sorry for what he did and he didn’t waste the court’s time, so I think that worked in his favour.

“From the onset, he told his lawyer he didn’t want to waste the court’s time,” Thabo explains.

Ntuka, who died at the age of 27, was killed in his hometown, Kroonstad, after he was allegedly stabbed in the chest.

It is alleged that he was involved in an altercation with a group of seven guys and Ntuka slapped a guy named Mix Leshodi.

Leshodi allegedly returned later with a group of his buddies and one of them, Jao, allegedly pulled out a knife and stabbed Ntuka in his chest.

This guy is gonna get punished, just like everyone should be for their mistakes... Hope society gives him a second chance, just like everyone deserves a second chance... That's my 2 cent's worth, i'm human and so is the murderer.

RIP Ntuka

ndumie  Not all killings get life sentence punishment. Hindsight is at time smarter than common sense. The guy did not contest the charges. Sometimes when we do something we feel like we own the world and later when we look back we realise our follies. Is not the mistakes that we do that make us, it is the lesson that we take forward that build us. Is only when we sit down and talk to people really talking to them that we can be able to know who they really are. Like man of God once said : “when I was young man I thought like a young and now I am a man…” .I hope that Jeff is in peace and his family is comforted.

tholokabomo ndumie Said a mouthful, bro. However, Section 11 of our constitution is unambiguous on the "right to life". If someone contravenes that right, they must pay the highest price with no consideration of mitigation. If leniency were to obtain even when someone has "premeditated" a murder, where can we find deterrent ? The whole system of law and order becomes a mockery; killing, with all intents and purposes,  is unlike inadvertently ending up with someone dead. My view is that the sanction must fit the offence; this one does not.
