Polokwane City fought back for a share of the spoils against AmaZulu at the Peter Mokaba Stadium on Wednesday night.
Usuthu looked to be on course for three points when Ayanda Dlamini put them ahead in the first half, but a goal just after the hour-mark from Siphesihle Nzimande ensured the game ended all square.
The hosts came closest to opening the scoring on 15 minutes when Vukile Mngqibisa shot from range, but goalkeeper Aubrey Mathibe held on for a comfortable save.
City continued to look the likelier scorers, but Usuthu soon found their footing and got the opener in the 34th minute with their first genuine chance through Ayanda Dlamini.
Polokwane made a couple of positive changes early in the second half, introducing Esau Kanyenda and Kagiso Senamela off the bench, but it was Usuthu’s Lunga Zondi who had the next attempt at goal, shooting just wide on the hour-mark.
Yet City’s positive intent was rewarded with an equaliser on 63 minutes. Kabelo Lichaba provided the assist for Nzimande, who finished off the chance with his right foot.
That goal proved to be the last significant act of the match, with the sides eventually content to settle for a draw that was a fair reflection of proceedings.
The result sees Polokwane up to 13th place, while AmaZulu maintain their place in eighth spot.
