Mamelodi Sundowns vs Free State Stars PSL

Posted: 6 November 2013 Time: 19:07

Surprise Moriri came off the bench to secure Mamelodi Sundowns a late 2-1 win against Free State Stars at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

Cuthbert Malajila scored the first goal of the game on 27 minutes, heading home Dove Wome's cross.

Camaldine Abrew levelled just after the break after a well-worked move, but Moriri got the decisive strike with four minutes remaining, controlling Malajila's pass before slotting home.

The game started off slowly with both sides struggling to break down the opposition’s defence, meaning both teams were limited to long-range efforts in the opening 10 minutes.

Downs captain Alje Schut almost broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, rising highest to meet Hlompo Kekana’s free-kick, but his effort went wide.

Malajila always looked the most likely to score for the Brazilians, and he did just that in the 27th minute; the Zimbabwean losing his marker before nodding a precise Wome corner-kick past Daniel Agyei.

Downs continued to press and Wome nearly doubled their tally with a freak goal two minutes before the break. The Togolese midfielder’s curling corner-kick had Agyei beaten, but not the post.

However, Ea Lla Koto came out a different side in the second stanza and levelled matters in the 52nd minute through Abraw. Mongezi Bobe made a driving run down the right flank before playing into the path of the Togolese striker, who tapped in for the equaliser.

Free State Stars dominated proceedings in the second stanza and should’ve taken the lead, but poor decision making let them down. Substitute Basit Adam was especially guilty of trying to beat the whole Brazilian defence on his own when he had a teammate completely unmarked.

And Moriri punished Stars for failing to take their chances four minutes from time. Malajila picked out the veteran from a quick counter-attack, and he took he took the cross down superbly before guiding his effort into the back of the net.

The goal made for a tense final few minutes, but the Brazilians held on to move to the summit of the table, while Stars drop down to 14th place.

Spykos1 Your words were marked long time ago my friend, when Downs signed Zungu people were saying he is not going to play more than 5 games, Wome, Malajila, Billiat etc will not score a goal for Sundowns.

You are busy criticising fat Pitso and you forgetting that your own coach is failing u, Pirates is in the final not because of Roger, you are in the final because the Bucs players wanted it more than him, it is their dedication that got Pirates were it is not Roger, the players want to make history....Your coach is a looser, he got Wits relegated and he ran away.......Let me tell you something...Your players want him out but theu cannot do that at the expense of the second star, hence their performance in PSL is defferent from CAF.

What do u mean by FAT... please leave Pitso alone. If u cant gain weight dont criticize the ppl who are enjoying their success. Pitso is a coach not a player, he doesnt have any reason to he thin

You are talking rubbish brother... give credit where it is due! RDS made lots of ppl eat a humble pie. You guys made a lot of noise about Baxter being the best... but just after 8 games you want him sacked! Leave RDS alone

Mavisto DOWNS Up

Moriri 33 morena. He cannot do what he did some five years back.Alberto Parreira even alluded to the point that Moriri has the best first touch of all the PSL players when he was coach of SA squad.Im not wishing Pirates to loose in Egypt. In fact I pray they win to have something to boast to their neighbours about. But a fact is a fact morena,Moriri tells the ball what to do.

where is Mukuka Mulenga? Pitso please bench Langerman and Laffor. push Zungu to play behind strikers and maybe its time to bring the yellowman back to stabilise that central midfield otherwise Hlompo alone is struggling hence we concede every match we play.

TeeBla I agree. Downs players should just make sure that they don't concentrate on the referees but their job which is to win games. KBY

ZEBRAS LAP DOGS OF BOBBY Spykos1 Thre's no such thing baba, maybe you never played soccer when u were still a young boy and u seem not to understand football at all. Which game in this season has Pirates played bad football? Even in the lose against Amazulu, Bucs played their ever attacking football. Don't tell us about this confused Pitso of yours who ensured that Bafana don't qualify for Brazil's world cup. Again, all players are happy with RDS--- ask any player at PIRATES (have you seen the unity, togetherness, the bond that is there in that camp?). Bucs players are like a BIG, HAPPY, SHARING family. Keep on warming that 1st spot for us and we know the right time to occupy it--- its too early... remember 2 seasons ago---- Downs warmed it for most part of the season and we occupied it at the ryt time. RDS--- THE BEST (ONLY COACH TO REACH CL FINAL since 2001)
