Mamelodi Sundowns vs Free State Stars PSL

Posted: 6 November 2013 Time: 19:07

Surprise Moriri came off the bench to secure Mamelodi Sundowns a late 2-1 win against Free State Stars at Loftus Stadium on Wednesday night.

Cuthbert Malajila scored the first goal of the game on 27 minutes, heading home Dove Wome's cross.

Camaldine Abrew levelled just after the break after a well-worked move, but Moriri got the decisive strike with four minutes remaining, controlling Malajila's pass before slotting home.

The game started off slowly with both sides struggling to break down the opposition’s defence, meaning both teams were limited to long-range efforts in the opening 10 minutes.

Downs captain Alje Schut almost broke the deadlock in the 13th minute, rising highest to meet Hlompo Kekana’s free-kick, but his effort went wide.

Malajila always looked the most likely to score for the Brazilians, and he did just that in the 27th minute; the Zimbabwean losing his marker before nodding a precise Wome corner-kick past Daniel Agyei.

Downs continued to press and Wome nearly doubled their tally with a freak goal two minutes before the break. The Togolese midfielder’s curling corner-kick had Agyei beaten, but not the post.

However, Ea Lla Koto came out a different side in the second stanza and levelled matters in the 52nd minute through Abraw. Mongezi Bobe made a driving run down the right flank before playing into the path of the Togolese striker, who tapped in for the equaliser.

Free State Stars dominated proceedings in the second stanza and should’ve taken the lead, but poor decision making let them down. Substitute Basit Adam was especially guilty of trying to beat the whole Brazilian defence on his own when he had a teammate completely unmarked.

And Moriri punished Stars for failing to take their chances four minutes from time. Malajila picked out the veteran from a quick counter-attack, and he took he took the cross down superbly before guiding his effort into the back of the net.

The goal made for a tense final few minutes, but the Brazilians held on to move to the summit of the table, while Stars drop down to 14th place.

Sundowns is playing kak with no direction. Comments from their coach is also kak. I don't care how we win, I don't care how we play, that's bull sheet. How can you say you are building for five years with old crocks players? Pitso is a joke really that is why I ddnt want him at Bucs is useless.

Bucs4eva yes,,,,but they do have games in hand. just like last czon.....a game  in hand is no  3 points in  a bag

let them talk whilst we collect points. at last we are able to celebrate a win. like Pitso alluded,  this time around 3 points are more valuable to me than entertaining football. i almost suffered heart attack last season with Neeskens in the helm.

No kid can do what Surprise did, with the same composure. He can teach Pirates players/strikers a thing or two about first touch, composure and how to score...As Neskeens said previous season, beautiful football doesnt always give you results.Sundowns played well during Neskeens, dominated opponents but struggled to score goals.

Spykos1 if Downs can't win games, then Bafana Bafana should or worse Chiefs must lose their games for me to celebrate. neither any of the above happened last season.

Azabalo Spykos1 If that is the case why is warming the bench if he can teach Pirates players? maybe you forgotten Pirates is playing final in Africa so don't compare Moriri with Galaxy players. Sundowns still far to match pirates standard.

Spykos 1 Pirates are going to Egypt to lose, remember what their coach said this time they are not on fasting. Moriri is way better than your strikers combined in his old age.

Unlike Sundowns and Chiefs... Pirates has never fought relegation in our life time. They got games in hand and of course they are going to win some.... soon Pirates will be among the top three teams where it belongs.
