Moroka Swallows have confirmed the passing away of their former star forward Andries Maseko who died on Saturday morning at the age of 58.

Maseko was admitted to Chris Hani Hospital (Baragwanath) on Thursday night, but the cause of his death is yet to be disclosed.

'Six Mabone', as he was affectionately known in his heyday, played for the Dube Birds from 1972 to 1983. He made history in 1976 when he netted a record eight NPSL goals for Swallows as they hammered Umlazi Citizens 13-0 in KwaThema, Springs.

He also played in the USA for Washington Diplomats, San Jose Earthquakes and Phoenix Infernos.

Swallows administrator and supporters director Sipho Xulu says: "As a club we extend our heartfelt and deepest condolences to the Maseko family, friends and the soccer fraternity at large. May his soul rest in peace."

Funeral arrangements will be announced as soon as they are finalised by the family.

KICK OFF offers its sincere condolences to the families and friends of Andries Maseko.

May his soul rest in peace.

Man is born with his hands clenched, but his hands are open in death, because on entering the world he desires to grasp everything, but on leaving, he takes nothing away.

We are sorry for his loss.  6 Mabone will live on in our memories forever. May his soul rest in Peace.

It is "Six Mabone"'s Picture. I think one game where he showed his class was that 5-5 semi-final game against Chiefs where "Ace" score all Chiefs goals. I think he scored in the return game and Maswaiswai won the replay 2-1. They went on to the final to play against AMazayoni. It was the Mainstain cup. I wish someone can give us the profile of this great son of the soul and have his information added to Wikepedia. I know you can edit information there but atleast there will be some. Add proper stats.

Robala ka kagiso. May the light keep on burning.
