Polokwane City beat Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 26 October 2013 Time: 22:17

Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first League loss of the season as they went down 1-0 to rookies Polokwane City on Saturday night.

The goal that made the difference in the match was an own goal by Sundowns fullback Tebogo Langerman in the first half.

Sundowns headed into this match brimming with confidence. Pitso Mosimane’s men completely annihilated AmaZulu 7-1 in a League encounter in midweek and were looking to continue their golden run of form.

The Brazilians were the early hustlers in this match and were creating most of the chances.

In the 13th minute their Zimbabwean international winger Khama Billiat had a sniff at goal when he tried to catch City keeper Modiri Marumo off his goal with an audacious shot, but the ball just went marginally off target.

Sundowns had a free kick in the 21st minute out on the right wing and Dove Wome delivered an excellent ball into the box which was met by the head of Bongani Zungu, but the former University of Pretoria midfielder headed wide from close range.

Six minutes later Zungu had another chance, but after all his hard work dribbling past the City defenders his final shot was disappointing as he shot straight at the keeper from close range.

With Sundowns having started the first half the strongest, City finished it with the upper hand and found the match’s opener in the 43rd minute. Galagbwe Moyana sent in a good ball into the box which Langerman unfortunately turned into his own net.

Sundowns went looking for the equaliser in the second half and came close in the 60th minute when Wome’s right-footed curling free kick from the left wing narrowly missed the target.

The Brazilians could not unlock the City defence who employed the tactic of “parking the bus at the back” as they emerged victorious and picked up their second win of the season at the expense of the expensively assembled Pretoria side.

Sundowns next 5 games are Free State>>06Nov,Pretoria University>>09Nov,K Chiefs>>23Nov,Black Aces>>04Dec,Swallows>>07Dec guess what out of that possible 15 points they will collect 5 points only 2 draws 1 win and 2 losses (Win to Pretoria,2draws to Free State & Black Aces and 2 losses to K Chiefs & Swallows) then at the end of Dec Pitso will have clear mind which players he will buy come January open window to complete his 5 years vision, Mark my words 2 will be from Orlando Pirates and 2 from Platinum Stars and Cuthberth Malajila will be loaned to Swallows and Manqele to be recalled back.

If a team score 1 goal or doesn't score against Orlandraw Pirates what do you attribute that to?

Each time your team loses you find a flimsy excuse for it, when you win you praise your team. Since you think your team is invincible how did you lose to Platinum Stars?

I attribute that to our system of knocking the ball around on the ground & make sure the opponent does not see the ball.if they have no ball they can't score.

I never said The mighty Bucs are invincible.....no team is. But Pirates have assemble a squad with quality and I m convinced we cn challenge every trophy. Its no surprise we lost on lotto against PS.When we lose I m on Roger's case and those players who did not show commitment.

You don't make sense no matter how hard you try. Your coach came up with that stupid excuse. It's because he is devoid of tactics he wants the teams who play against Pirates to open up and if they don't he becomes frustrated and come up with lame excuses like his supporters.
