Polokwane City beat Mamelodi Sundowns

Posted: 26 October 2013 Time: 22:17

Mamelodi Sundowns suffered their first League loss of the season as they went down 1-0 to rookies Polokwane City on Saturday night.

The goal that made the difference in the match was an own goal by Sundowns fullback Tebogo Langerman in the first half.

Sundowns headed into this match brimming with confidence. Pitso Mosimane’s men completely annihilated AmaZulu 7-1 in a League encounter in midweek and were looking to continue their golden run of form.

The Brazilians were the early hustlers in this match and were creating most of the chances.

In the 13th minute their Zimbabwean international winger Khama Billiat had a sniff at goal when he tried to catch City keeper Modiri Marumo off his goal with an audacious shot, but the ball just went marginally off target.

Sundowns had a free kick in the 21st minute out on the right wing and Dove Wome delivered an excellent ball into the box which was met by the head of Bongani Zungu, but the former University of Pretoria midfielder headed wide from close range.

Six minutes later Zungu had another chance, but after all his hard work dribbling past the City defenders his final shot was disappointing as he shot straight at the keeper from close range.

With Sundowns having started the first half the strongest, City finished it with the upper hand and found the match’s opener in the 43rd minute. Galagbwe Moyana sent in a good ball into the box which Langerman unfortunately turned into his own net.

Sundowns went looking for the equaliser in the second half and came close in the 60th minute when Wome’s right-footed curling free kick from the left wing narrowly missed the target.

The Brazilians could not unlock the City defence who employed the tactic of “parking the bus at the back” as they emerged victorious and picked up their second win of the season at the expense of the expensively assembled Pretoria side.

That's the "see-saw" (mzinki) team for you. Always holding your breath if you are a true supporter and when you are forward, heart attack could be your friend if you don't care fully. Everyone ruled PC out after what happened midweek and with the quality they have.

Anyhow I'm happy for my home team, I'm sure they'll show others that they are no longer push overs. Their first games were played with anxiety and now the show they have found their grip after their last 3 games. Surely its the start of their point shown here in PSL

"Don't call us overpaid underachievers"- said Tipsy Jingles Moshimane...I'll say this now, Dawana supporters are ought for yet another dissapointing season & 5th place finish ku-Psl, the only time bazoba happy is during the transfer window &i think they should rejoice that cause that's the closest they'll ever get to winning something.

I dnt understand y when a team is defending well it is called packing a bus. It is opposition's responsibility to come up with a strategy to unlock the tight defense by employing a plan b tactics. If a coach loose and still say it is bcause the opponent packed it is the same as saying he failed. Plk kept clean sheet in two games in a row collecting four points. Where Ch means their defense is gud.

$ign- down deserve to win this game.....they were unlucky. The tactics used by PC are the ones that makes games boring and turning supporters away from stadium. Chiefs do the same with darby worse they even buy refereees. This tactics are employed by cowards who don't want to lose by big margin. They already know they lost the game but sometimes by luck they score that one goal.

I respect a team like Platinum stars.....they attack and still beat Sundowns. Small teams like chiefs have to park a bus and depend on javelin.....1 might get in.

Any coach will employ tactics that he feels will get him a result from any game.

It's strange that the same GORRILA and $igndoms fans who are blasting any team employing defensive tactics hailed Chelsea's achievement after they played anti football against both Barca nd Bayern en route to clinching the 2012 CL.....

Signdoms like PLK CITY had 11 players on the field so y couldn't they counter the defensive tactics with their expensively assembled line up last night?

Football involves different tactics to get the results and last night PLK employed the tactics that got them a result.

So now I take it Polokwane City are a big team......
