NFD top scorer Nkosinathi Mthiyane Orlando Pirates transfer AmaZulu

Posted: 11 October 2013 Time: 14:11

Last season’s National First Division top-scorer Nkosinathi Mthiyane has explained what made him turn down a move to Orlando Pirates.

Mthiyane, who signed for AmaZulu at the end of July, bagged 14 League goals for Thanda Royal Zulu last season, losing out on the overall top scorer award to African Warriors star Brice Aka, who got 12 goals in the League and four in the Nedbank Cup.

Mthiyane has one goal so far for Usuthu this season, in six appearances, with three assists.

Craig Rosslee has already been full of praise for the the 25-year-old winger, who was the top player for September in the KICK OFF Fantasy League.

He was previously on the books of AmaZulu, but left in the 2010/11 season to join Usuthu’s sister club Durban Warriors, before moving to Thanda.

Mthiyane reveals to the PSL’s official website his reasons for turning down the Buccaneers – and Maritzburg United – in preseason.

“There were some concrete offers in the transfer window, the most significant one everyone knows about was from Orlando Pirates,” he tells the PSL’s website. “But it’s just that I started at AmaZulu when I was young, so I knew all about the club, the culture, the atmosphere and some of the faces at the club.

“I knew it was the right thing to do and I felt I owed it to the club in a sense. So loyalty played a role too and I felt this was where I will be given the chance.”

Mthiyane reveals that he believed a move to the Soweto giants would be too much too soon.

“Pirates is a good team, but it’s just that I told myself I can go there in the future,” he says. “I wanted to only go there after proving myself at another PSL club first.

“I didn’t feel I was ready for that kind of a move. I wanted to settle down at AmaZulu first, work hard, improve myself and improve my game first. I’m sure that time will come again if I can continue improving as a player.”

Good decision mfana, we have seem more players (Joseph Molongoane, Patrick Phungwayo) following that criteria because they know the culture and the atmosphere @ Mayfair . It makes sense mfana, however if you blossom in KZN then Naturena is your home , look at Majoro now ….driving good cars, ugcoka grand, unuka amaLV,namaVersace, ugunde namadreads nyana lawa.

Nawe uyam'bona ukuthi uyaphila ...that's Hollywood life style in Naturena

You made the right decision seun. At Pirates we only require "ready to go players" at times. Keep working hard at the Zulus and we will come get you soon when you show signs of maturity. I dont know how did Mabena end up at Bucs!

Nebo 03 Nono, your pierats is inconsistent; to them it is still like pre-season, RDS is not sure of his starting 11, including right winger you imply to have. There is meddling with team selection, Lekgwathi wants rotation, Floyd wants his substitutions and penalty takers; chaos !!!
