Mabhuti Khenyeza reaches PSL record 100 goals list

Posted: 26 September 2013 Time: 12:54

Mpumalanga Black Aces striker Mabhuti Khenyeza became only the second player still playing in the PSL to reach 100 goals in domestic football last night.

The only other player still playing in the PSL to have earned a century of goals in the modern PSL era (since 1996) is Moroka Swallows forward Siyabonga Nomvete, who currently stands at 110 goals.

The only other players to ever go past the 100-mark in the PSL era are the retired duo of Daniel Mudau (108) and Manuel ‘Tico-Tico’ Bucuane (104). Wilfred Mugeyi (123) would also be there, but scored some of his goals pre-1996/97.

Khenyeza’s strike against Bloemfontein Celtic was his 100th League and cup goal in club football since making his debut at Golden Arrows way back in 2002.

He scored his first ever goal was on December 4, 2002, against Ajax Cape Town in his debut season in professional football.

That season (2002/03) he went on to finish with a dozen goals.

Since then the 31-year-old has scored for every club that he has played for, from Arrows, Kaizer Chiefs, Ajax Cape Town (two spells), Mamelodi Sundowns, SuperSport United and his current club Black Aces.

Khenyeza has played his entire career in the PSL since breaking into top flight, football unlike Nomvete, who spent seven and a half years battling with the demands of European football, scoring a mere 15 goals during his time overseas.

All-time top 10 scorers (still active) in the PSL era

Siyabonga Nomvete (Moroka Swallows) – 110

Mabhuti Khenyeza (Mpumalanga Black Aces) – 100

Collins Mbesuma (Orlando Pirates) – 76

Sibusiso Zuma (SuperSport United) – 73

Katlego Mashego (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 72

Katlego Mphela (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 71

Surprise Moriri (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 66

Erwin Isaacs (Bidvest Wits) – 56

Anthony Laffor (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 53

Daine Klate (Orlando Pirates) – 52

Richard Henyekane (Mamelodi Sundowns) – 52

>>Terror Fanteni (unattached) on 54 goals and Brent Carelse (Chippa United) on 57 are the only other players still active to have scored over 50 goals in the PSL era

He is a reffree spitting idiot, bad example to our kids. Only idiots will support such actions. He called it upon himself. I mean why would the whole PSL be after mabhuti Kanheza, it does not make sense to even think about it.. He must be punished regardless of his achievement...well, it took him forever to reach 100 goals, just like one top striker called Mphela who I doubt if he will ever reach that mark.. Pity the stats do not mention whether the goas include Cup goals as well. Top strikers reach 100 goals in less than 3 seasons..they took more than 10 years... aikhona.
