First win for Arrows, Polokwane stay pointless

Polokwane City are yet to earn a point in the top flight, while Golden Arrows got their first win with a 2-1 victory at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Sunday afternoon.

Philane Shange and Thanduyise Khuboni got the goals for Arrows. Moffat Mdluli got a consolation goal 10 minutes from time for the rookies.

On 10 minutes Abafana Bes’thende should have gone a goal up when Shange found Lucky Nguzana in the box with a great cross, but with Modiri Marumo in no man’s land he could only head wide.

Shange and Nguzana combined again 10 minutes later, but Marumo made an acrobatic save to keep the score at 0-0.

On 37 minutes Esau Kanyenda beat his markers and attempted a bicycle kick from close range, but the ball went narrowly wide.

Arrows went ahead on the hour mark, after a somewhat disorganised set-piece resulted in Shange finishing off from close range.

The visitors doubled their lead 10 minutes later, when referee Victor Gomes awarded them a penalty after Thapelo Tshilo fouled Shange in the box.

Arrows captain Khuboni stepped up to take the kick and sent Madumo the wrong way.

With 10 minutes to go Polokwane got a glimpse of a comeback, when Gomes awarded a penalty after Kanyenda was fouled in the box by Vuyisile Ntombayithethi.

Mdluli converted from the spot to make it 2-1, but Polokwane were unable to find the net in the remaining few minutes and remain bottom of the log.
