Orlando Pirates AC Leopards CAF Champions League

Posted: 14 September 2013 Time: 15:02

Orlando Pirates lost 1-0 to AC Leopards in the CAF Champions League in Congo on Saturday, leaving Group A wide open.

The Sea Robbers went down to Dimitri Bissik's 72nd minute strike in Dolisie.

The result sees Leopards join Bucs and Al Ahly at the summit, with the latter having a chance to move clear if they defeat Zamalek on Sunday.

In a goalless opening period, Pirates striker Lennox Bacela had a great chance to score but the ex-Bloemfontein Celtic man volleyed off target off a cross from Patrick Phungwayo.

Earlier, Daine Klate drilled a free-kick straight at Leopards goalkeeper Lawrence Ngome, while at the other end Bhebey Ndey shot wide, with Buccaneers keeper Senzo Meyiwa also making a smart stop to keep his team in it at one stage.

Leopards showed intent after the restart, and eventually got their reward when Bissik fired the ball past a back-tracking Meyiwa after the gloveman - who was making his 100th Bucs outing - failed to gather a corner.

Bafana Bafana winger Klate threatened with a late free-kick, which went narrowly wide, but the hosts held firm to claim the three points.

Orlando Pirates starting XI: Meyiwa, Lekgwathi, Mahamutsa, Phungwayo, Sangweni, Masalesa, Manyisa, Myeni, Klate, Mbuyane, Bacela.

Leopards starting XI: Ngomé, Nzamba, Moubhio, Miangounina, Bissiki, Lakolo, Gandzé, Niemba, Ntela, Mouzita, Ndey.

We played more like our jealous neighbours hoofing the ball forward without thought. As for the goal, Meyiwa is to blame. Manyisa was poor. Masalesa is yet to convince me. Lekgwathi must rest.

What a nightmare of a game. Nxa!

We were playing in a sand. How can CAF allow such pitch to host this kind o a game?

It's not over Buccaneers, we will regroup.

Keomaneezyjay don't be positive because in head to head stats AC is better than you (it's not goal difference that matters). if Al draws against Zama tomorrow then you will be in huge trouble

Why was Mbuyane on the starting line up? Okay fine maybe the coach had a reason for putting him in the starting XI but the whole first half Juju was nowhere to be found why wait till so late to substitute him? This is bad !!! Pirates should have wrapped this group a long time ago! now its going down to the last game for us to qualify for the Semis. I foresee a big disappointment come Sunday next week!!!

East Rand Shame on you... there was no way you played like Chiefs, you didn't in anyway play long balls otherwise you might have scored... you tried to keep the ball too much and defended too deep. How can you blame a goalie for a deflected shot??? Your intelligence is low on this one bro

eish. the coache's presence was neither seen nor felt. It's games like this one that constantly expose the caliber of our choach. Despite all the winnings we have bagged hitherto, I have never placed my compliments and praises to the coach. Why? because iBhakaniya is and always has been a winning team, with a winning spirit. Winning for us has never been a sacrificed and/or compromised result. It has, for as long as I remember, been an autonomous 90 minute football result. But with Roger, iBhakaniya constantly finds itself rummaging in the bag for it. We are at a point that we celebrate even the lousiest wins ever. Clearly, he went for a draw. It backfired. Asinine coach iBhakaniya family has ever seen.

Bucaneer 2.0 clearly you don't get your coach... Sox would have cost  the team even more because he runs with the ball and this pitch it would have proved futile
