No shining as Stars draw stalemate

Siyabonga Mpontshane shone brightest as Free State Stars and Platinum Stars played to a 0-0 draw in their League match at Goble Park on Saturday afternoon.
The Dikwena goalkeeper was at his best as he produced numerous saves in a match characterised by some poor finishing in the final third by both teams.
Free State Stars had the better of the first half, but saw Mpontshane in their way when they did have a decent shot on goal.
In the third minute Adam Abdul-Basit let loose with a good shot, but he saw his effort well saved by the keeper. Seven minutes later Danny Venter was also thwarted by Mpontshane, who produced a good diving save.
In the 25th minute Venter and Abdul, but the latter headed wide of goal. The remainder of the half saw both sides with long range shots, but neither posed any real danger.
The start of the second 45 saw Platinum Stars doing the attacking. In the 50th minute Vuyo Mere delivered an accurate free-kick into the box and Issa Sarr rose highest to meet, but his header went wide.
Free State Stars’ only real decent chance of the second half came in the 58th minute, but Mpontshane saved his team yet again when he made a good block to deny Camaldine Abraw.
Seven minutes later and Platinum Stars created one of their best chances of the match as Robert Ng'ambi met a cross with a strong header, but he saw his effort go inches wide.
In the 76th minute Paulus Masehe was denied by the Dikwena keeper again; Mpontshane diving to deflect a well-placed shot from the Free State attacker away from danger.
