Darren Keet on Bafana call-up

Posted: 29 August 2013 Time: 13:18

Darren Keet may be happy to be included in the Bafana Bafana set-up to take on Zimbabwe, but admits he has been confused about being continuously overlooked.

The shot-stopper was given the nod by Gordon Igesund to form part of the second squad set to play a friendly against the Warriors next month.

Keet says he knew his name would be announced, but wasn’t sure which team he would form a part of, for the Zimbabwe friendly or Botswana qualifier.

“I did know about the call-up, but I just wasn’t 100 per cent sure about the whole Botswana/Zimbabwe story. When would I be part of the squad? When would I not?” he tells

“So I was a little confused about that whole part, but of course I am extremely happy to be back in the set-up and to prove my worth to South Africa.”

It will be the first time Keet will be a part of the squad since his inclusion in the friendly match against Zambia last November, and he admits that falling behind in the pecking order to Itumeleng Khune, Senzo Meyiwa and Wayne Sandilands has made him question his role.

“It has been difficult because I was in the national team more when I was playing in South Africa than I have since I left,” he adds. “I have improved immensely since leaving, so sometimes you need to just stay low and carry on with what you are doing like I am.

“I hope that the coach thinks I have something to add to the team, and when I get that opportunity, I will have to grab it and never let it go.

“If it means I am only in the friendly squad, then hopefully I can get a run and prove to the coach that I want to be in the national team and that I can add some value.

“I will have a chat with Gordon and see what his plans are for me. He has said to me previously that I am part of his plans, so I hope that is still the case.”

I would be confused too boy, I mean a step forward means an improvement and that is of great value to the national team... he should be atlst behind Khune......:1. Khune 2. Keet 3. Meyiwa and ofcoz no Sandilands.

I sympathise with you Mfana. The fact is that you never play for any Soweto club before you g. That is a criteria in SA. ask the young sensational Williams, a way better than Sandilands and Meyiwa even Khune, but he was called to train with bafana bafana while playing week in week out competitively. Shame on Mzanzi football.

Keet, that Madala Gordon is confused. You have every right to be confused.

Andile Jali was in the Bafana set-up before he won a treble. After he won a treble he was excluded.

You were part of set-up when you played for Wits, you were excluded from the set-up when you became a first choice keeper at you team in Belgium.

Tlou Segolela was part of the set up when he wasn't playing at Pirates. He destroyed Al Ahly and more recently he helped kill a Zebra. In essence, now that he is a regular he is excluded.

You see the trend? Players are excluded from the national team by Gordon immediately when they improve at club level.

On soccer laduma today it was said that Yeye is off form and has been off form for quite a while now. Chiefs fans are calling for his head in favour of Lucky Baloyi. But regardless of the fact that he is deteriorating, he is still first choice and favourite to start a game for Bafana.

Keet, do not be discouraged. Gordon is confusing. Only he understands himself. He and his Zebras that is.

Khune will burn out soon if he is not rested. Coaches are not doing him any favours but killing him. Stupid gays fans will praise mediocrity made by the Chef and Cowden. Once he get injured gays will be crying blaming it on bobsteak and chef for the lack of debth in the team, as his dupity at Nazoorena will be rusty by the bench, while Cowden will be happy as he has you and Senzo who are on form and who can step up any time. What was the reason for Cowden to call 3 keepers against under 19 of Burkina Farso and still prefer mini distaster fat boy instead of having a look at the other keepers? What will be the reason to do the same in a friendly against ZimBoBwe? If he does not play you on this friendly or any other keeper, knindly stay in Europe and not honour any call up until we remove the mlungu or until aunty Khune gets injured or burn out.

In SA we will never progress when yoou have stupid Naroozena gay fans, the cv chef and clueless national team coach.

Gordon Igesund is a moemish coach Keet...ask the likes of Tlou "Gautrain" Segolela.

He continues to select cows who haven't won the nation any silverware since 2010, let alone the pride of the nation and even now, Bafana Bafana WILL FAIL TO QUALIFY FOR THE WORLD CUP IN BRAZIL 2014.

Keet has made it overseas.
Khune has not and will not.
Keet plays in a decent European league where Belgium is ranked in the top 12 in the Fifa rankings.
Khune plays in a average African league where Bafana is ranked almost 70 in the world.

@Destop, Khune is regarded as one of the 50 footballers right now, Keet is not.
