Moroka Swallows striker Edward Manqele explains wrong spelling

Posted: 28 August 2013 Time: 10:51

Moroka Swallows striker Edward Manqele caused a stir when he ran onto the pitch against Kaizer Chiefs last night with a jersey displaying ‘Mnqele’.

The 26-year-old joined Free State Stars in 2011 as Jabulani Edward Manqele and used the same surname during his unsuccessful spell at Mamelodi Sundowns.

According to the PSL’s media and broadcasting manager Luxolo September, the player has been registered as ‘Mnqele’ for this season, but Manqele tells KickOff.com that his correct surname is Manqele and puts the blame on Home Affairs.

“My name is Jabulani Edward Manqele, but Home Affairs made a mistake when I got my ID … they omitted the ‘A’ in my surname,” he explains. “As a result in my passport my surname is ‘Mnqele’, which is wrong.

“When I joined Free State Stars in 2011 I explained to them and they registered me as Manqele, regardless of the mistake in my ID. Sundowns did the same as well.

“But when I joined Swallows I didn’t explain, hence I’ve been registered as ‘Mnqele’. But I’ve applied for a new ID and hopefully this matter will be sorted because it’s inconveniencing.”

Manqele was at his best in 2011/12, but he failed to live up to expectations when he moved to Chloorkop. However, he is confident of making up for lost time with Swallows.

“I want to get back to my old form, but it will take time,” he tells KickOff.com. “Yesterday we were unlucky, we could have won the game and the penalty given against us was soft. But it’s okay, there’s a long season ahead of us.”

Mnqele..or whatever you are, a foul in a box is a penalty, soft or no soft and that palooka called Asavela Mvazo was lucky finish the game as ws clumsy on his challenges, and he was supposed to get a second yellow on that foul but didn't....so thank the referee for the error coz had this error favoured KC, im sure the whole media fraternity would be abuzz by now, so nobody talks about it and reviews ####... and u must just shoosh about the penalty and do like your coach coz he choose to be mum when the so called external factors favours him.
