Ajax Cape Town secured a valuable point against Golden Arrows in their opening match of the 2013/14 PSL season.
Peter Wadabwa had given the home side the lead, but Lebo Manyama rescued a point for the Urban Warriors when he netted with 20 minutes to go.
The first chance of the match fell to the hosts, but Wadabwa headed just wide from Dumisani Zwane’s cross in the seventh minute.
Keegan Dolly tested Siya Mngoma with a powerful shot from range shortly afterwards, but the goalie pulled off a goodone-handed save.
Just before the break, Toriq Losper was denied by a good save by Mngoma, while Siphelele Hleleni curled his free-kick wide at the other end moments later.
Arrows started the second half brightly and took the lead in the 48th minute when Wadabwa buried his shot from inside the box after Ajax goalkeeper Brandon Petersen palmed the ball back into play.
Four minutes later Hleleni showed his composure to turn away from his marker on the edge of the box, but his execution let him down as he lifted his shot just over the crossbar.
Manyama started to get into the game and should have done better in the 58th minute when he was face-to-face with Siya Mngoma, but his lobbed effort was saved.
The end-to-end action continued with Mandla Mdunge curling his effort inches over the crossbar in the 65th minute, while Manyama’s header produced a brilliant save from Mngoma four minutes later.
The equaliser arrived in the 70th minute when Travis Graham’s pass dissected the Arrows defence, allowing Manyama to beat Mngoma with a low shot from the edge of the area.
Arrows tried to push forward for the winner in the closing stages, but substitute Bongi Ntuli failed to get enough power on his shot in the 81st minute, before blasting his long-range effort over the crossbar.
