Pillars have never won the Fed Cup, but the Nigerian champions are aiming to break the jinx this season, starting with a quarter-final victory over Warri Wolves on Wednesday in Ilorin.

"Kano Pillars have never won this championship before and everybody in Kano State wants this trophy, we almost won it last season but missed by a whisker when we were beaten by Lobi Stars in the semi-final," Pillars coach Baba Ganaru told SportingLife.

"We want to be part of history and I think the best time to win it is now, our team is intact and everybody is doing everything humanly possible to see that we achieve it," he said.

Pillars most successful run in the competition came as far back as 1991 when they got to the Final, but lost 3-2 to El Kanemi Warriors.
