After the brief suspension of the League as a result of the Federation Cup, the Glo Premier League resumes on Sunday with Week 22 round of action.
ENUGU RANGERS vs. NEMBE CITY
Rangers will be hoping to carry their Fed Cup form into this encounter with the Baribote Boys. Rangers recorded their first away win of the season against Nembe City in Week 2, and will be hoping to do the double over their adversaries this weekend. Nembe will however provide Rangers with a stern test, as the hard fighting team have proved that they are no pushovers. Their placement in the top half of the league table is evidence of their ambitiousness.
Prediction: Rangers 2-0 Nembe
BAYELSA UNITED vs. KANO PILLARS
At a time like this when United are still licking the wounds of their Fed Cup ouster at the hands of ABS, their fans may not relish the prospect of facing Kano Pillars, the reigning Nigerian champions. Pillars currently top the league with 39 points from 21 games, six points ahead of fifth placed United who will be hoping to use this big fixture to appease their fans for Wednesday’s disappointment.
Prediction: Bayelsa 2-1 Pillars
ABS FC vs. GOMBE UNITED
The Saraki Boys will be brimming with confidence when they host the Desert Scorpions on Sunday. Having knocked out Premier League rivals Bayelsa United from the Fed Cup, relegation battling ABS will hope to give their survival chances a boost by defeating Gombe United.
Prediction: ABS 3-1 Gombe
SHOOTING STARS vs. DOLPHINS
Shooting Stars host Dolphins on Sunday at the Lekan Salami Stadium. Both teams had contrasting fortunes in the Fed Cup on Wednesday, as 3SC advanced at the expense of JUTH FC while Dolphins were knocked out by lower league side Akwa Starlets. Dolphins are however on a three match unbeaten run in the league and will be banking on their fine form in the league to upset Shooting Stars who have lost three of their last for games.
Prediction: 3SC 1-1 Dolphins
AKWA UNITED vs. LOBI STARS
Both teams have fared well in the Fed Cup so far, as they beat Makwanda and MFM FC respectively to advance into the next round. They are also both dangerously placed in the murky waters of relegation, and a favourable result this weekend will enhance the survival chances of either side.
Prediction: Akwa 2-0 Lobi
HEARTLAND FC vs. WARRI WOLVES
Heartland welcome Warri Wolves to the Dan Anyiam Stadium on Sunday. The Naze Millionaires who struggled to beat Ingas FC in the Fed Cup on Wednesday are on three game losing streak in the league and face a difficult task against Warri Wolves who are unbeaten in their last seven games. However, having received a financial lifeline from the Imo State government, Heartland should be well motivated to get a favourable result.
Prediction: Heartland 1-0 Wolves
NASARAWA UNITED vs. ENYIMBA
Nasarawa United have shown flashes of brilliance this season, but have only managed to win one of their last three games. They however welcome Enyimba who are on a three game winning streak, with their last win coming away to Heartland in the Oriental Derby. United face a difficult task of beating Enyimba who will be looking to grab a second consecutive away win.
Prediction: Nasarawa 1-1 Enyimba
SHARKS vs. KADUNA UNITED
Bottom placed Sharks FC welcome Kaduna United to the Sharks Stadium on sunday. The Blue Angels have struggled to perform this season and will banking on the poor away record of the crocodiles to get a much needed win this weekend. Sharks managed a nail biting win on penalties against amateur side J. Atete FC in the Fed Cup on Wednesday.
Prediction: Sharks 2-0 Kaduna United
WIKKI TOURUSTS vs. EL KANEMI
Like most Nigerian clubs that win at home and struggle on the road, Wikki have been quite inconsistent this season. The Tourists play host to an El Kanemi team that have only lost once in their last five games, so the Warriors are expected to put up a good fight against their host on Sunday.
Prediction: Wikki 0-0 El Kanemi
SUNSHINE STARS vs. KWARA UNITED
Sunshine Stars play host to Kwara United at the Akure Township Stadium on sunday. The Ondo State-owned team have failed to win in their last three league games. After beating Nembe City 2-1 in the Fed Cup on Wednesday, Sunshine will hope to draw inspiration from their midweek victory to record a win against Kwara United who have only won once in their last four games.
Prediction: Sunshine 2-0 Kwara United
